Engine noise

The most common cause of engine whine is a ground loop.

Ensure that power cables do not run next to RCA signal cables. If the cables are too close, engine noise, which sounds like a high-pitched whine, can get into the system. If whine is unavoidable, you might consider using a Noise Filter. In addition to having your RCA cables mounted away from power cables, make them as short as possible, as signal strength is lost over distance.

You might want to also try grounding the amp at the same place as the stereo ground. Some people say it isn't necessary, but I've seen problems when it's not done, and have never seen a problem when it is used.
