is this pretty much the same kit everyone has, and does it fit pretty well?

that is the exact same thing i have. it fits rather nicely. you will only need 1 of the mounting brackets, thats what i did. i wanted to keep my RAI from moving a lot, but i let it move just a little with the engine.

Polycarbonate (Lexan) works well for creating an airbox. Nice way to have a CIA and not worry about water ingestion. I'm surprised there aren't many people that make their own on this site. I should've designed a box when I had the SRI. . . what was I thinking?
Here's a real popular one for another car, but it'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about. http://www.3800performance.com/Merch...egory_Code=IFS For the Protege, you'll want the opening to take air from the fenderwell, so the bottom would be open.

maybe the reason why is the $260 price tag!! Also the gains they show are on a modifed supercharged V6.
If I could find some sheets of lexan near me at a good price I may purchase a few SRI's off ebay and make a custom box for them.
Anyone seriously interested in this?!?! I think it would still be cheaper to just buy the Ebay CAI though.

Matty, you know that's where my roots are. The P5 is my wife's car. Bob, the owner of Motorsports Performance made a killing off those boxes. But a lot of us made similar boxes from scratch. Materials could be picked up for around $50. The box in the link is heated and formed. However, you can cut and piece together, as one would for a subwoofer box. The design for the protege would also be far simplier.
Combine the box with an SRI from eBay and you have a CIA without hydrolock worries.

true but is something like that worth?? What do you think would be a good price for something like that and how many do you think would be sold?? I'll get some prices here for purchasing the lexan and look into it even if it's just for you!

Don't do it for me. . . I picked up an Injen for under $100.
However, market it like based off what I mentioned eariler. You'd be able to sell a couple of hundred with a $150-200 price tag. Design it to work with the Mazdaspeed as well. . . .BOOM, make a killing. Let people know they can paint them too. Imagine the sides painted. Clear top. Neon light or strobe in the box. Then you have the optional RAM AIR ducting that scoops up fresh air and directs it too the hole on the bottom of the box.
Damn, I'm just giving away ideas. If this goes into production, I get royalties!
Err, just remembered the coolant recovery tank. That'd be a tough work around. A relocation kit would be fairly simple.

my coolant relocation kit--- $.035 bracket!
I'll look into it. If I can get the lexan fairly cheaply I'll buy some and see what I can come up with. It appears I'm going to be waiting forever to get my supercharger brackets back so that project isn't taking all of my time like it used to.

The Bosal header is not a "direct bolt-on"...do a search. It is part # 111-252 I believe and fits the 2.0l Probe/MX-6/626. It is running about ~$300 or so, but you'll have to a websearch to find the best deal.
The exhaust is Racing Beat...and a quick websearch just showed ~$445 for the catback system.
I don't think those prices reflect what I actually paid for my stuff, but it's been a couple of years and my mind is foggy. Basically google is your friend!
