Speed3, SVT, CopperS, Si. & R/T

Everyone keeps saying Speed3 vs. WRX, I think your wrong. It should be Speed3 vs. Focus SVT vs. Mini Copper S vs. Civic Si vs. Neon R/T. The WRX cost to much. 3k to 5k more than the others. Now we have five fast little cars that if you read the likes of Road and Track, Autoweek, Motortrend, and others they will say nice things about all five. Their priced around the same, their fast, the write ups are good., and for the most part they all look good. Which is the best by?

Best buy? Focus SVT.

For 18K USD you get the best car of the current bunch. The Mazdaspeed will likely be better but it will also likely cost 4K USD more.

yes Focus SVT intrigues me quite a bit. With all the goodies they pack in for that car and only selling for 18k, it's almost too good to be true...

Gonna have to test drive one when they start showing up...

i think it should be the Neo SRT 4, not the R/T, thats the high perfomance Neon that will be a direct competitor

The SVT lacks a LSD, and thats a big no-no with 170hp. The cooper S will be VERY cool, and is up above the price of the MS protege, about 23 for a well equipped one. And from what im hearing from some people who have driven the normal "non S" cooper, it feels like a neon with BMW suspension.
I looked at the Cooper & the S and the price isn't that bad. it comes with alot of stuff and with the options that I would want it would be 21k. I have not driving one yet but I did talk to two people that have driving the copper & the S, and both thought that the S was not worth the extra money. One of them got the Cooper.

another way of looking at this is the autocross classes.
Speed3 not sure yet, but the MP3 is GS
CooperS DS
Copper HS
SVT GS
Neon "all" GS (is this right)
Civic Si GS

As far as performance, they are all probably pretty close when it comes to seat of the pants feel except for the Mini. For me it comes down to finish, looks, and pracitcality.

I would remove the Mini from this comparison too for the reasons that PRX mentioned. All the other cars are probably pretty similar in power according to the butt dyno.

As for the rest of the cars, it boils down to looks, fit and finish and reliability. The MS3 and the Civic Si are at the top of my list here, although I am not quite used to the new look of the Si.

Next I would put the Focus even though I really don't like the looks. Styling on that thing is painfully sharp and chaotic. The good handling and power just can't make up for ugly.

The reliablity of the Neon puts it at the bottom of the list. It looks pretty good, but kind of cheap and dated at the same time.

Is that the neon with a 215bhp Turbocharged engine and a LSD? If so then these other cars are going to have a bit of trouble keeping up.

Do the Coopers have a trunk? I quickly glanced at one at the auto show and couldn't find it.

it's a 3 door hatch, there isn't a 'trunk' per se, open the hatch and there's space under behind the backseats...

You can get a base cooper s or a cooper for sticker. The dealer here is not charging any markup. I drove the base Mini today and I really liked it, it was really stiff with 17in wheels considering it was the base one. you can get a base mini for 16800 with no options. I consider that a damn good deal for what you get.

That's the one. Although I've read that it will be 205 HP in 2 magazines that have printed any info on it. Quality is anyones guess.
