Should i buy this P5?

My friend has a black 2003 P5 and is selling it for $12,900 it has 22K on it almost all of the miles are highway miles he doesnt drive it hard often only when he's with me (not often at all)

So i'm wondering if everyone thinks this is a good deal? nothing is seriously wrong with it except it might need a new clutch soon.

the only thing setting me back is i am only 15 and i dont get my license till i'm 16.5

but this oppertunity isnt gonig to come around again and i really like the car but i dont know how i can convince my dad to let me get it.
whats everyone's opinion on this? good deal bad deal? anything will help

-thanks

You won't need a new clutch for a long time- the clutch should be find to 100K if the car was driven with care.

I don't think $12,900 is a bad deal for a P5. I paid well over $20,000 for my 2003 P5 when I bought it new. Provided, I have the leather and everything. But from what I have seen, low teens is market average for these cars.

If your dad does let you get one, you'll love it. I wish my first car was only half as cool as the P5. Besides, you should have a cool car when you are young since you'll only be a teenager once.

Well teh only thing is that i COULD get something better/faster since with all my money put to gether i have $25,000 so if i got this P5 is would do some modding but i'd be afraid that if something when wrong witht eh mods i wouldnt know how to fix it.

but i mean teh other car i'm considering is teh 2005-6 RSX type S so it's kinda a weird comparision i guess i have to drive the RSX first.

but after driving the P5 it just feels so crisp like everything is tightened all the way =)

Yeah, like Juddz said, at this point, it depends on the options the car has. I got mine new without leather, no sunroof, no ABS, and a single CD player for $15.5k before trade-in, tax, warranty and interest. Speaking from experience, with the amount of money you have available, I would suggest going with the P5, maybe adding a few performace mods, and stashing the rest of the cash away in savings for the future. Trust me, if college is at all in your future, you'll be glad you have the extra bones in the bank when you have to buy books, TV's, movies, oh and dates (and when you are 'old enough' maybe some brewskis). I don't see much sense in spending a whole $25,000 on a higher-end sport compact now when there will be plenty of time later down the road in your life to 'appreciate' those kinds of cars, maybe even higher end. Anyway, that's my two sense! I think you might even be able to get your friend to go a bit lower on the P5... do some research on the net (and I mean not just KBB or Edmunds values... look on autotrader.com and ebay for actual prices the car pulls in) and then remind your friend of how good a friend you are to him/her So, there ya go! Hope everything works out. What matters most in the end is that you are happy and have a good, solid, reliable, sporty car.

P5's seem to be holding their value pretty well. If you can talk him down to 12 or maybe a little more, I'd say go for it. If it needs a clutch at 22k, either your friend is lieing to you about the hard driving, or he seriously needs to learn how to work a clutch. Our clutch should be good for at LEAST 50-60k miles under normal driving conditions. I have 30+K, I drive like a maniac, and my clutch is still perfectly fine.

well the only problem with putting a few mods into it is that i have no experiance in modding, the only thing's i know how to put in are things like plugs, wires adn air filters.

is it hard to learn to put an exhaust and an intake on a car? and how much horsepower do you think i could get it up too if i put in a new air filter/intake/exhaust?

Hey, Bartizek. Check out your other post for some info on where to start modding your car. The best advice I can give you is to keep tuned in to this forum to see what works and what doesn't in terms of adding more power to Proteges. As for getting comfortable under the hood, just get a good shop manual and go to town. No guts, no glory.

It's not a bad deal. If it's kept in pretty good condition, I don't understand why not. Clutch shouldn't be an issue for a while like the others said.
