short throw installation

For those of you have installed a short-throw shifter, both Kartboy's and B&M's website say that installation takes an hour or less with minimal mechanical expertise. B&M even posts linstructions with lovely pictures. However, I do not have the jacks and lift necessary to get under my car to remove the thermal plate and I have no friends in the area from whom I could borrow. For enhancing the feel and spirit of my daily driver P5 (I am not intending to race) would you consider it worth asking a shop to do the installation for me? It's frustrating that I couldn't do it myself. Thanks

hmm, I need to spell check a little better. I have no idea what "linstructions" are.

just use jack stands and if you aint got em go to sears or wallmart and pick some up it doesnt need to be that high i squezed under with jack stands and had no problem took me a little less than an hour to do it just make sure you have a friend to move and hold the shifter for you it makes it go alot easier

if you haven't lowered your car, you should be able to reach everything...i installed kartboy's bushings on my wife's mp3 without the use of a jack or jack stands.

Yeah, go to Walmart and get yourself a jack and jack stands.
The shifter is way too easy to have a shop do it and they will rape you for it.

Yeah, go get a $10 set of jackstands from Wal-Mart, then use the jack that came with the car to jack up one corner like your doing a tire change, then put the stand underneath to support it. You could do it without the stand, using just the jack, but its up to you whether or not your life is worth 10 bucks.

Excellent! I didn't realize jack stands were so inexpensive. I was imagining something else initially, like those heavy duty hydraulic jacks they have in shops. $10 is right on the money... Autozone has them for $9.95 and they're each rated at 2 tons Thanks all for the input

i installed mine using jack stands and it took about an hour to finish, but i installed my exhaust at the same time so probably woulda taken half an hour by itself.

A question to other people who have B&M, did yall have to bend the heat shield? I didnt when i installed mine so i was wondering if there's more space on 03's or if i did something wrong.

Not to mention...when you do your OWN oil changes....you will need the jack stands anyway......I TOTALLY removed my heat shield...but then that was because I put my cat back exhaust on at the same time I installed the short shifter.
