Can someone who has NOT removed their roof rack cross bars advise on the mounting orientation? I had mine off, then put them back on. The wind noise seemed worse after remounting then before I had them off. I assume the direction they're mounted makes a difference. I noticed that on one edge there is an angled flange running the entire length. The other side is smooth. Which side faces the wind?

 

Mine have the squared flange pointed forward.

 

what Orange said....I have NEVER removed mine...and the ridge is on the front....its there to break up the air flow so that the rack cross member doesn't act like an air foil.
