my "useless" motor has about 95k too
it ran good before it went on me

how long did it take you to set in your custom turbo

by set in do you mean install? uhhhhhhh took the shop, myself and a buddy like 4-5 days, but we do **** like this all the time, so id imagine maybe a week for less skilled people.

Dave Potter is bosting something like 12-15lbs with a t3/4 on his 1.6L...he DID upgrade his injectors, since they are ****,Goldpro can attest to that...but his internals are all stock, and he is well over 250lb-ft of torque(torque breaks stuff, not hp)...If you turbo it, you really need to worry about fuel,a good manifold, fuel, routing intercooler piping, fuel, hiding the boost from the ECU(unless you are standalone), oh and did I mention fuel ?

yeah dave potter last i heard sent his stock injectors out to a company that makes them more efficient, so he didnt have to change fuel rails, and splice diffrent wires in like i do, fuel is a big must, you dont wanna run lean, i got an rx7 fuel pump, and an fmu, im currently looking into an adjustable rising rate fmu, instead of my fixed 12:1.

(off the topic)would a strut bar enhance my protege's cornering? i really havnt heard it being used so much.

and how many horses do you think a stock 1.6l dohc can push (i really havn't tested mine,....really cant yet) and then how much (hp) can be put in it w/o beefing it up

These enchiladas are great, my mom pwns.

I drive a 1.6, it's slow as hell, stock (for another week or so), and I run it into the ground. Granted, I love my car more than anything, so I baby it when I can (Premium gas, frequent wash/waxes, regular oil changes, I talk to her :-P), but, I haven't had one single issue with the car after 65,000 miles.

1500 bucks or so will get you the variable valve timing engine from corksport if you're wondering about swaps, should be a direct bolt-on (need ecu, harness, etc).

It's 1.5l actually, but ~130hp.

Anyways, lets all calm down :-)

Premium gas is a big WASTE of money on a stock 1.6L...IF anything you LOSE power..high octane doesnt help you if you dont have the cylinder pressures to use it, all octane does is resist early detonation...getting the entire ZL-VE head for the extra 15-20 hp is not worth the cost, and getting the ecu and harness is next to impossible anyway....turbo is the most cost effective way to get more power out of a 1.6L...

for Kmaal....no one has broken a 1.6L with boost yet, so it's hard to answer that question, and no one makes off the shelf forged components anyway...I have seen 250+ lb-ft of torque (once again hp doesnt break stuff, torque does)so far on Dave Potters and no issues yet..the strut bar does improve steering response some...small issue with fitment since the intake manifold sits so high, however shimming it up with some washers fixes this

i have no idea about max hp on a 1.6, all i know is i stomp the crap out of mine daily, and beat it like i stole it, and have no problems, when i break it ill tell you what i did wrong, so you guys dont do it, lol

as far as the zl-ve, its a waist of time and money, unless you like to spend big bucks on small gains,

and about the tranny, no problems yet, so we will see.

I wasn't asking or probing for opinions when I made my post, I was merely stating another option he had, seeing as though the title of the thread had something to do with engine swaps, and not premium gas, turbos, or anything else. Calm down.

Its a placebo I suppose. It makes me feel good to give my car what I think is the cleaner gas, it's hardly throwing money away. It's like.. going to church for some folks, just peace of mind.

And btw, Kmaaguy, I work at UPS, twilight sort in San Antonio :-P

well thats great, we were just stating that the zl-ve is a waist of time, and lots of money. so instead of filling his head with useless money pit engine swaps we gave him BETTER alternatives, so you calm down.
