question on 1.6 litre engine and tranny

both are stock.

engine i will buy rebuild w/warrenty. tranny is stock (came with car origionally)

is there a special modofication, or engine part, i would have to get so i can get MAJOR torque responses from my motor? and would the tranny handle it?

sadly an auto. id like to project a manual in it, but the only time id have would be july to august.

i gotta worry about my motor first and getting a new one in.

but doesn't a highboost give HP, right?. im trying the concept my brothers MR2 has..

since the motor is right on the back wheels (MR) he says thats why so much torque is there.

mine is a FF, basicly a reversed set up of a MR, but why is my cars jump so slow.
(btw, the MR2 is non turbo'd, basicly no modifications done except a short shifter)

im guessing HP is generally in the motor, so wouldn't torque be a tranny issue?

i could be WAY off or close to what has to be done... any recommendations.

thankyou very much for reply

when you mod a 1.6L...HP and torque stay pretty dead even...if you want torque then you want hp too...turbo is the only big gain you'll get
