A Protge by another name....

For anyone who wants to see a new twist on their Protege, check this out:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...E13232,00.html
That's right, it was sold as the "Ford Laser" in Australia.

Here it is again, sold as the "Etude" in South Africa.
http://www.mazda.co.za/showroom/etude/

They call it the 323 in Europe, and they even sold a turbodiesel version of the car there.

Anyhow, if anyone else finds some other unique versions of the Protege, post them here! (Yes, everyone knows it is the Familia in Japan, so I didn't bother posting a link).

ooh, a turbodesiel option would've been HOT on the protege. There's a Golf guy here at our track who has a TDi Golf and he's running 26psi on a stock motor with only an intake. Runs low 8's in the 1/8th mile on DR's.

I knwo about the 323, familia and protege names for our cars

our cars are 323s

do you guys remember the 323s from back in the days, well thats what our cars are, just a newer version.....

323 = protege/all the other names = and now mazda3

just like how the 929 basically became the millenia

and now how the 626 = mazda6

I was wonderin' what ever happened to the new model 323's/protege (I call it a 323 because that's what they call it here in Trinidad), and I kinda thought that the mazda3 replaced the 323. I kinda don't like the new design for the 323 though!

Thanks for the confirmation Vagabond-X!

By the way, there's no more proteges? Meanin' that the pro. is now the mazda3?!

Amrit,
That's correct - the Protege name is phased out here in the US.

I wonder, does Mazda put a heater in cars shipped to Trinidad? I remember reading an article about an old Mopar that was shipped to a Carribean country, and it didn't have a heater in it - didn't need one! I wonder what else is different in the Mazdas that you can buy there on the island? Any pictures of your car? What do the tail lamps look like?

Well I'm not exactly sure about the cars that are shipped here, but I do know for sure that we don't get any heaters because we definitely don't need it. It's already too hot here!

My car in particular was shipped from Japan, well all the cars are but my is a little different that the 1 you'd get at a new car dealer.

My car is a direct import from Japan meanin' that it's a used car from Japan.
There is a heater but it never works, don't really care about that anyways as long as the a/c works just fine I'm good

You can check out a few pics of my ride here:

Well there's your answer - different dash - less gauges!

Nice clean car - looks good!
