Question Pro in the snow..?

Not sure of all of your locations, but... We got like 5 inches of snow this weekend, and I couldn't drive in it My pro is horrible in the snow. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? Sliding all over the place, or if its just me??

Depends on your tires and your speed. I have winter tires on mine and I think its fine. ( I have admittedly only driven in snow a couple of times).

Stock tires + Snow=death

Good set of snow tires + Snow= ability to drive through snow as high as ground clearance will allow.

Seriously though. The stock tires are very, very, very bad in the snow. Dangerously so. In my opinion snows are almost a requirement in certain climates. Or at least a set of those easy to instal chains for when it gets realy sloppy.

Hm... well, yeah they would be the stock tires. Thats what I was figuring was the problem, but I wanted to see if anyone could relate hehe I dont really want to just get snow tires, cause I doesnt always snow all that much... at least not this year. What about just a good all season tire? My pro came with Toyo's... assuming they are all season. I thought those were good ones, but I guess not.. I really didnt want to get new tires until I can afford rims.. so hopefully it wont snow anymore hehe.

I dont really drive fast... not in the snow anyways I'm talkin about sliding at like 20mph and starting once I've had to stop at a light. I have a 5 speed and as soon as I get out of 1st I just start goin to the side.... ah well. I'll just keep the hazards on and hope everyone stays outta my way..

slippery pro's

I live in Canada and always get snow, my pro has always been excellent in the snow, even with the stock tires. I usually am driving faster than most with no real complaints. My tires are now mostly bald on the back and half worn on the front. The car still handles well in bad roads.Stopping is the only scary part of my drive. "Knock on wood " I've never ditched the Mazda.

Keep 'em shiny side up eh!

My pro is dropped, and with the stock tires (which i havent rotated since i got it 11 months ago) it's great in the snow. We got about 6 inches last night and other than spinning a little on takeoff, i never lose traction unless i'm trying to, and i never slide unless i'm trying to

The stock's on our pro suck in the snow. Didn't have much of a chance to test them out before winter hit but next year I think we'll be getting a set of blizzaks.

I just bought a set of snow cables. Got a chance to use them this past weekend and what a difference they make. Tracks like a snowmobile and stops on a dime (a big dime). I only needed them for one day and by late Sunday the roads were clear.
I thought about getting another set of rims with snow tires but I didn't fel that it was worth the $400 dollars. Most of the roads are cleared by the next day around here, so I spent $79 for the cables instead.
If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative, try the cables.
BTW, I got mine off the net from www.autosportcatalog.com

Stock "SNOW" tires

I had to wait for my dealer to get it's act in gear to swap the stock tires over to snow. Therefore I got some seat time driving on stock tires in the snow. Unlike most of the replies so far, I thought it was decent, almost good enough to live with. What I did notice is that the stock tires w/ ~600mi on them hydroplaned in rain water at ~70mph. I am shocked!! I do have to live with these tires in the summer and now I know they suck in the rain. I'm bumming

So to answer the question...
I'm on 15" Nokia snow tires on steel rims. The car is a tank, SUV's are just another obstacle in my way. C Ya!

P5Freek - what size of Nokians to you have? I'm thinking of replacing my 195/60/15 Yoko Guardex 600's with some skinnier Nokians for next winter. I realy want to find a 185/60/15 or 175/65/15 but so far I have had no luck.

My wife's PR5 was doing great in the snow - according to her. We got about 6" this past weekend and she had no problems. My car on the other hand - Barely any snow on the ground and I was sliding everywhere

My Nokias are 195/65/15. I actually had these on my 97 Maxima (jap pontiac that had to go). So luckily the Maxima had the same lug nut pattern so that I could just swap them over ( I actually took the spare out of the Maxima on my test drive and mounted it on the Pro5 just to make sure. Anyway the Nokias are sweet tires (BTW: they're not studded) fairly quiet and bite snow like crazy. I have studded Falcon snow tires on my CRX Si and the Nokias kick the Falcons butt in snow. I just have the Falcons because I did a 6hr ice race on them and won! Woo Hoo!

Well, I drive a MP3, and never even considered keeping my Dunlop SP 9000s on there . But, for those of you having trouble with wheel spins from a complete stop, try starting from second. You'll have to rev a bit higher to keep it from killing, but the lack of torque gets your car moving, and the wheels from spinning out of control!
