Piping Difference?

Does anyone know the piping (exhaust wise) between my LX exhaust and a mazdaspeed stock exhaust? If i purchase the mazdaspeed piping it should fit my car without problems correct?

The Mazdaspeed exhaust is just an axle back (replaces the s-pipe and muffler), and yes, it bolt right on.
If you mean the exhaust that is on a mazdaspeed protege, its not a direct fit because a MSP is turbo'd, your car is not.

so pretty much what you are telling me is the axel back part of the muffler is the only thing that is going to fit? This guy is telling me the whole system will fit my car. Including muffler, s-pipe, and resonator.......he says its 2.25 inch piping and the piping on my lx is smaller....

The piping is most likely the same after the downpipe I'd imagine, maybe slightly different setup with the O2 sensors, I dunno, but it should fit. Also, I believe the dealer's MazdaSpeed exhaust is only a muffler and does not include the S-pipe.

No, you get the s-pipe.
It also sounds to me as if you are talking about the Mazdaspeed axle-back. If so, yes, it is a direct fit.

Maybe that is more justifiable for how much it is then if they include the S-pipe. I always only saw the muffler on display so I assumed that's all it was. Either way though, the pipes should match up fine.

Ok so pretty much racing beat came out with two exhausts : one for the mp3 wich is a true cat-back exhaust. It comes with three pipes, muffler, s-bend, and resonator.....now, a mazdasped exhaust is mainly an axle back right? Same piping as a regular mazda, but not a cat back exhaust....? Some guy is selling a mazdaspeed cat-back exhaust but I did some research and mazda only came out with the racing beat exhaust for the mp3...kinda confused..................so are the mazdaspeed pipes 2.25" and my regular sedan exhaust is not 2.25"?? confusing , yes i know....i think I just confused my self again

I think there are 2 different "MazdaSpeed" axle-backs out there. The good one, and then the one I ended up with. I ordered the one from the dealer, in the little blue "Protege Performance Accessories" booklet. It looked tasteful, not too big, too bling, or gaudy. Since they put it on too, I never saw it until I went to pick up the car. Ooops! What I got was an axle back with a MazdaSpeed logo made by Borla, very large (3.5" round tip), very chrome, and way too "look at my exhaust" for my tastes. It is a bit louder than the RB, but still not "rice". But I'd trade it for a RB anyday.

Im looking for an answer.....is my lx piping the same as a mazdaspeed piping??I know the muffler are different, but someone has to know the piping difference! I need to know this

I'm pretty sure the RB Catback is just the RB axleback with one more mendrel bent 2.25" pipe to go from the midpipe to a polished stainless resonator and a connectrion to the RB axleback. If you already have the RB axleback, you can just get a custom polished stainless steel pipe run from the midpipe back to a new resonator then to the axleback and you'll have the same system. You can even go straight from the midpipe to the axleback with no resonator if you want, but this will make it louder.

The RB Catback is just a kit that replaces everthing from the cat to the muffler, and the axleback is just the muffler and a small piece of S piping that connects to the stock resonator. Since the piping from the midpipe to the axleback is essentially straight, you won't get much of any performance gain from the additional custom piping, which is probably why mazda just puts the axleback on the MP3 and Mazdaspeed.

To clarify further:

The RB cat-back and the RB axle-back do not have interchangeable piping, they are different.
And yes, there are two "mazdaspeed" axle-backs out there. After trying to figure why this is for a few months, I think I got it:
The Racing Beat axle-back is the one that came with the MP3, it's got an oval tip, it's not as loud.
The other one is the Borla, which came with the Mazdaspeed and it's louder.
What confuses everyone is that Mazda dealers sometime sell one or the other as the "Mazdaspeed" axle-back.
One of these days when I have some extra time (haha) I am going to try & figure out if these things actually have different part numbers.

I know the dealer has an accessory called the Mazdaspeed exhaust, which is just an axle-back. The MP3s have the Racing Beat axle-back. Now as for the Mazdaspeed Protege, I know there was a tip change, from round to oval...does that make 4 axle-backs for Mazda dealers?

Not that I know of.
Look at the axle-back on mazdastuff.com That is the Borla.
I have never seen or heard of anyone getting the oval-tipped Mazdaspeed exhaust from a dealer, or anyone else.
If anyone has, I'd be curious to know.
The oval-tipped MP3 exhaust, the one that I have, actually says "Racing Beat" on it.
