Well, I checked my oil the other day, and I noticed that it may be overfilled I might have put a tad bit over 3.7 L. What is the best way to remove some oil? I might use the dipstick method next time I do my oil...LOL

You can dump the oil into a clean pan and reuse the old stuff or you can siphon some out through the dipstick tube.

You should be able to pick up a siphon fairly cheap at a pet store in the aquarium section. Keep in mind the output needs to be at a lower level than the suction side. You can also try picking up a pump, but that'll cost a bit more.

FWIW, I put in about 3.5 qts and then check the dipstick.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the oil out easily?

I'm planning to do my very first self oil change this weekend. Great tips you guys have posted. Just one more question, the oil drain plug, what does it look like? If anyone has pics of it that'll be great, or is it so obvious that any idiot like myself won't miss it?

You cant miss it, its under the oil pan. The pan is under the engine, and the engine is under the hood. Start at the top, and work you way down.

P.S. Im not trying to sarcastic, just funny

say, when you got the filter, did they give you new drain plug gaskets for free? I forgot to ask for some when I went to buy the filter at the dealer today...

Just reuse the gasket. Since its metal, you shouldnt need to replace it for a long time. Just another tip, www.mazdastuff.com has Mazda oil filter for $4.25 apiece. Dealers usally charge $8 bucks apiece. If you dont live in Texas, you dont have to pay sales tax.

if its an auto,i bet its the tranny fluid filter...if not your guess is as good as mine....also not a good idea to just measure the amount of oil in the manual and pour it in...you risk overfill, which is BAD...a little oil will always stay in the crankcase,if you do it right and warm up the engine before changing thoil, and theres always residue in the pan...this might not seem like a lot but it adds up...always best to go by the dipstick....he had it right to begin with...put in the 3 quarts first.then drive it off the ramps...i always end up only putting in 3 1/4 qts or 3 1/8...so 3 3/4 would definitely overfill it...also dont bother with the filter wrenches..hand tighten it and it will be easy to take off...a good idea is to use the fram with the black textured stuff on the end..its easy to grip and twist off..oh well thats about all i have to add
