I really don't care what it's called because it looks good either way. And what you call it isn't going to change the appearance. I just wanted to let people know that they do have 4dr hatchbacks and that all hatchbacks aren't 2drs as someone mistakenly stated earlier.

No, the Golf 5 door is not a wagon since it doesn't have a window past the back doors. If you will notice, the P5 wagon does. Basically, if your car looks like a sedan that has had like a truck cap fused to the trunk, odds are it's a wagon. Accept it and be proud. I notice that most of the P5s are driven by late 20s early 30s people...people that have passed their good days and need to feel young again. The younger crowd wasn't fooled by Ford/Mazda's clever marketing...they stuck to the hardcore imports with the double wishbone suspension. The older crowd wasn't fooled either...they bought the real deal sport wagons...BWM 5 series wagons, Audi Avant, Volvo T5R, etc. The P5 was clearly a marketing ploy for the ageing Y generation, right from the stying to the "130hp" figures.

Look at the picture of the two Ford Focus's (top of page). They both have an extra window behind the back doors. An extra window doesn't really help explain a wagon to a hatch either, just like that 2dr, 4dr idea.

I have avoided this thread as WE had this whole conversation before....and it will NEVER be settled....

Personally....I see it as a SPROT WAGON. Wagons TYPICALLY are vehicles which are versions of a sedan....not always...but typically...and no, they do NOT have to be longer versions. but rather have a DOOR on the back to access a storage area.

HOWEVER.....to put a different light on this....go to your favorite search engine, and do a search for AUTOMOTIVE DICTIONARYs....and from that list that pops up...start looking up the two terms we are discussing here...HATCHBACK and WAGON/STATIONWAGON......

you will find that even the experts can not define the terms such that you can put our car in one or the other catagory....as our cars fit into BOTH catagories by the definition of the two terms.

SO, I guess the bottom line is....ITS WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT! :{D

In my opinion it is both. It has a "Hatch" on the "Back" as well as "wagon" ness. In Japan as well as Europe the view of the word wagon (whatever it looks like in Japanese) is very different than over here. All kinds of Subaru, Toyota, and Honda "wagons" are tuned to no end. Over here people hated them since the woody. I think this is why Mazda used a different strategy for marketing the P5. They never wanted to use the term "wagon" to describe the P5, and in turn hopefully target the generation of young adults that hated their parents woodys (Take that howevder you want to)

did you guys see that dgm is coming out with a CF engine cover for the protege in the style of mp3's cover. on wednesday it was $130. i checked on friday at my friends house and the "sale" price was $180. that sucks.

Hey on my CA registration it sais my pr5 is a 4H (H i'm guessing means hatch, thats what I thought since I work for an auto insurance company).

a friend told me "hey who hatched your wagon"

like stated before.....our car fits into BOTH catagories.....what do you want to bet that the fees the state get are higher for a HATCH then they are for a wagon....same thing for the insurance companies? at least nation wide....so if YOU were them....where would YOU catagorize the car for YOUR purposes?

BTW.....my registration has the same designation on it....and I did look it up on the net....the 4H does stand for 4 door hatch. of course...that is just the STATES OPINION! LOL

and as I was looking through the list of codes....I came across one that made me go HMMMMMM 5d.....what the hell is a 5 door sedan? there is also the 4L, which they call a 4 door liftback...wich I believe WE would all call a true HATCHBACK....so there ya go.....

those are actually part of the NO FEAR line....I got them at a chain store called GADZOOKS......just so you know..the stickers ARE made in LEFTS AND RIGHTS....so that the skull is facing forward on BOTH sides of my car. :{D

Hell yeah, its all about the bling bling. I had a serious talk with my insurance agent about why they had designated it as a 4dr hatch back and not a wagon. He honestly told me that the company gets a lot for premiums if it was designated as a hatch. I mean when was the last time a wagon was considered high risk:-D (i guess now it can be)

I can't decide what to call my car, around here girls like to call it a short wagon, guys call it a long hatch...I go WTF!!!
