Hey, I started this little discussion a few months back to see how a P5 would fair against a Grand Prix GTP. I was just curious if my car would be able to hold its own against one in a little friendly race with a guy that works with me.

It's been fun reading everyones input. Thanks.

I traded in my 99 Gt just recently as well. I was close to 100,000 mile on it. I got a couple of proteges. One of them a 5.

That GTP will kick your ass pretty easily. And the GT could probably take you as well. Aside from the fact that my grand prix hax 100,000 miles on it I loved it. But I'm getting used to my Protege, and the wife won't even let me drive her 5.

I do agree it is pretty expensive for the power output, but even being over a decade old design, it's chassis will hold its own with some of Italy's best...

The Honda NSX-R, which I believe never made it across the pond, (There was some kind of NSX Type S-Zero, which had the suspension components, but not the engine) was had a higher tuned, hand-built 3.2L V-Tech V6 that made approx 340hp...It obviously is not rated at that becuase of Japan's Government restrictions on power output. It was kind of like the R34 Skyline's inline 6 making upwards of 330hp despite being rated at only 287hp...

But yeah you are right, we can't have that one, and for $90,000 you still are not matching a Camaro SS's output, but it's looks and handling make up for it. There is load of rumors going on about the new one's engine. Some say a V-8, Some say a slightly larger and higher output V6, but I haven't heard anything definate yet...And it is unlikely that it will get much more power unless European and North Americam NSX's get a different engine than Japan...

This thread has gone way off topic, but what the heck... :)

Rumor has it that the new NSX will have a hybrid powertrain like the Insight, except tuned for performance instead of fuel economy. It will supposedly be a V-6 in tandem with a high-output electric motor, and the article I saw about it called it "electric nitrous". :D

But yeah, the NSX desperately needs more power, and Honda realizes this because the NSX's sales have been in a tailspin for several years. :(

I heard about that too, I forget which mag but they claimed it was just a platform they were using to show off Honda's future hybrid technology. They said it was not what was going to be in the next NSX, just what Honda will be capable of in years to come. I didn't hear that it would be in the production car, but it would be cool if it was...

Nate, I just glanced over that thread and links but I don't see how this really applies...

The U.S. spec TSX does not have the hybrid powertrain as of yet (and Car and Driver says there are no plans for it as of now) and just uses a torquier 200bhp version of the RSX's K20. FWIW it is hardly a BMW beater so far too...But also where does this come in on the engine of the new NSX?

nate0123 March-28th-2003 07:45 AM

Yea, it wasn't about the NSX, but it discussed a similar hybrid technology Honda could apply to a vehicle with performance in mind, and not just economy. That was all...

Installshield March-28th-2003 09:41 AM

oh ok, I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I was pissed last night to begin with becuase of all the tests I had today...

But yeah Honda is making some pretty impressive hybrid powertrains. I wonder how well they will fair against a highly tuned standard engine?
