Unhappy P5 dash ate my CD!

Something funny happened to me last night on my way into the city...

I had a few copies of a demo CD I just burned and I wanted to check and make sure they were OK. I took the disc I was listening to out of the CD player and stuck it in the storage bin behind the cup holder since I was going to put it back in a minute later.

I listened to the demo discs one by one and they were all fine, so I went to put the original CD back in. I felt in the bin where I put it and it wasn't there...so I figured I might have put it in the door pocket, or maybe it fell out on the floor, but no such luck.

So I reached my hand back into the bin, this time palm up, and I discovered a little slot at the top of the storage bin! Since the compartment is angled down, if you slide something narrow (like a CD) flat across the cup holder to put it in the bin, it will just disappear right into the slot. I'm guessing the hole is there to give access to the back of the cigarette lighter, but the placement of it makes it pretty easy to accidentally lose something down there.

After I stopped the car, I crawled under the dash, dug down behind the console and was able to just barely touch the lost disc with the tips of my fingers. Of course, I ended up just pushing it farther into the abyss with seemingly no way to get it back. Any ideas on how I can get in there without dismantling the console? I think I remember reading something about just pulling out the cup holder, so I might give that a try when I head back out to lunch this afternoon.

Anyway, just wanted to share that. I've had my Pro5 since August and I never had this happen before!

HELLO Leigh and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

if the CD is in fact UNDER/BEHIND the console. removing the cupholders MAY give you enough room to reach back under there and snag it.....

to remove the cup holders all you have to do is flip up your little door...then put a few fingers in each cup holder and gently pull back towards the shifter....the whole piece pops out.....the cup holders an the piece that goes around your shifter...its held in with a few friction clips is all.....putting it back in is the reverse....it will open a large hole in the console that goes to the floor area.

Thanks, Nuke. My Pro5 is a 2002.5, so it doesn't have the door over the cupholders. Hopefully they're still attached with the friction clips so I don't break anything trying to pull it out! I'll let you know how it goes.

thanks again!

Okay, got it! The cupholder pulled out with no trouble, and the CD was sitting right beneath. As an excuse to use my new digital camera, here are a few gratuitous shots.

With the cup holders removed, it's a cinch to recover the lost CD:

Here's a view of the storage compartment where I tried to put the disc in the first place:

And finally, the evil hole in question that swallows your CDs!

Thanks again, Nuke!

AAHHAHAHHAH WOW that is pure jokes, nice work man glad you could get your cd back..i did a similar thing with my cell phone once, thinking that i could pull the ashtray out and set the phone there. Needless to say, my dash did the same, i needed to remove the lower plastic by the drivers footwell to get to it though it still mad me laugh, mind you i didn;t have a sweet pics to bad up my story.

Woh!

that exact same thing happened to me last night. I figured it out pretty quick though by taking out the ash-tray thing and putting my hand in there to move the cd through the slot
