One thing I don't like!

I love my P5! But, one thing that gets under my skin is the AC coming on when the air is directed to the floor! Someone else mentioned this and really did not pay attention until the cool weather hit.

I have a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab and those guys figured out how to delete this function and keep the AC off in the defrost mode (unless you push the button).

Anyone out there figure out how to take the microswitch off line that activates the AC to turn on when the selector is in the defrost, defrost/floor, or floor position?

If I need cold air - I know how to hit the button!

You all have a great day!

on the protege's there is a micro switch that activates the air conditioner when you turn the selector to 'floor' and when you turn it to 'defrost'. i would suspect that you could disable it by disconnecting that switch. you have to take your dash console apart, and get to behind the climate control panel to see what i mean. but, it is right there. when i had mine all apart to paint it, i saw it and thought "that will be a nice little bit of information to know about, better store it in the useless brain file for later." now here you are, asking about it. like i said, if you take your center dash console panel apart, and get to behind the climate panel, you'll see the switch.

sorry to ramble like that...

Yeah, this has bugged me since day one with the car. I believe reading somewhere that you actually have to dismantle the the 3 **** HVAC control and desolder the micro switch(es?) from the circuit board. It sounds like as you rotate the directional **** something physically pushes on the switch. I don't think there is a wire that could be unhooked to solve the problem as it probably ties in with the manual push button.

I've wanted to do this too, but like many others here my car has an intermittent fault where the A/C goes on and off in the #2 position. (Never when it's at the dealer tho' ) If the thing is defective I'd hate to have a warranty claim disallowed because someone (me) modified the part. It sucks now that it's getting cool, I'd like to have slightly warm air blowing on the floor and windshield w/o the power drain of the A/C, the worse fuel economy and the puddle on my garage floor from the condensor.
