Talking Odd.. I just got more power

Was driving today, go figure, and I started off from a stop light, and my car felt odd, felt better, stronger, more responsive. I have not had any maintenance done to it yet, I have a schedualed appointment for Tuesday of next week, prepping for our Cross County trek. Out of the blue, I feel as if this car has more HP, I know its not possible, but I noticed that my shift points (AT) are lower than before, and that running at 60mph is about 500rpm lower than it was just yesterday. What the heck just happened to my car? Has it been running with O/D off this whole time, and I was unaware?

-Just an odd thing that happened today, wanted to let you all know.

ahhh... niether... I drive like an old fart who doesn't like to have people in front of him.

"normal driver" was just noticing that the car now has what I feel is the correct throttle response and more reasonable RPM's for the speed traveling.

Somebody changed your final drive gearing when you weren't looking?

I don't think this is truly possible. I think you could definitely manifest more/smoother power -- my old RX-7 especially went through spells where it felt like I would gain or lose 10-15% horsepower. But I think the RPM/speed thing is just your perception. The engine should always turn the same revs at any given speed in any given gear.

He has an automatic. The engine performance could affect the shift points.

Quite true, but he says, "...running at 60mph is about 500rpm lower than it was just yesterday..." which I think is impossible if it's not a CVT. An automatic still has set ratios.

Yeah that happen to my car once in a blue moon. I have been doing some test to figure how it is happening. So far i have come to the theory of "oil fuel time"
At a certian point the Oil in the car is nice and broken in. Then when you get like half a tank of "good" gas, the som bitch runs like a beast.

Happens to me all the time. Its either the car gained 10% more power or it lost it. So somedays Im a snail other days im powerfull.

I think it has to do with the electronic tranny mazda puts in it shifts based on the way the driver drives, it probubly got used to you.

Then again the engine power must go throught hte slush in the trany so maybe becuase it was colder or some other reason the slush thickened up giving you more wheel power and more speed at a given rpm becuase the extra power is not being lost.

Weather and gas quality make a fair difference in performance.

i know you guys all keep saying weather is the answer, but im thinking its more along the lines of he turned off the A/C. I notice a considerable power difference when that compressor isnt running
