Question Now... picking up my new P-5

So... once I've paid the remaining balance and getting the keys for my new car, I'd have to inspect it before signing the agreement.

From experience, what do you guys check before taking the car home? What're the things that I should be careful with?

I left the dealer and went home and washed mine. You can always find stuff when you wash it, windows leak, anything like that. The only thing with mine, was the hood squirter hoses weren't hooked up, soaked down my engine when I went to squirt the first time
Best thing is to enjoy the car, a lot of fun to drive. Hope you enjoy. Later

I meant what I should check *before* I accepted the car and left the dealer... any major items that I should check? Or should I just walk around the car for one lap and drive away?

check for in the back seat...

j/k seriously, do a complete walk around of your car, make sure its clean...REALLY clean. I don't think a drive is necessary; afterall, what is a 5 min drive doing to tell you? You need days to hear any funny squeeks or feel any vibrations.

Ask them to show you where everything is and how it works (radio, dipstick) You'd be suprised how many people here were suprized to find out that in the centre storage bin lid there is a clip to hold your insurance and ownership. Check all the fluid levels, a full tank of gas (you paid for it), have them explain the Mazda roadside program.

Some of these things are obvious, but if you are with your better half, she'll appreciate it and you might learn a thing or two...

You will be v. happy with your purchase enjoy!

Inspect the paint for any small scratches. I found about 5 on my car and told them I wanted them buffed out when they installed my block heater and mud flaps. I just expected them to take the scratches out but they detailed the entire car. The sales manager said the money for the detailing didn't come out of their commission so they would be happy to do it.

Well, I also find condoms out of my trunk after I bought my first car. It was a 2nd hand car. I found them inside the trunk, inside the box where you put the tire changing tools. Everytime it feel disgusting when I think of it. I mean, what kind of jerk do it inside the trunk?

I have the same feeling about being in this forum. Everybody so nice here, so helpful. I learn more from here than in any of my college classes.
I love the people here.

Here are a few tips...

1. NEVER I repeat NEVER pick up/inspect the car at night/after dark. Do it during the daylight...and preferably a sunny day if at all possible. The reflection of the sun will help you see any blemishes on the exterior of the car....just plain and simple...better lighting.

2. since we have to assume you are from the U.S. you have a roof rack in your car....there should be FOUR plastic pieces in the back of your P-5, maybe in a plastic bag, which are pieces to be installed on the runners of the roof rack should you decide to remove the rack...MANY people didn't know about these when they got their cars...and DIDN'T GET THEM. they are NOT extra....they come with the car.

3. Test drive it again, one last and final time.

4. PLAY WITH EVERYTHING...the radio...the A/C, the heater, all the windows....the door locks....the alarm if you got one....EVERYTHING...even the window washers like mentioned before....

and HAPPY MAZDAING!!!! ZOOM ZOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

4 Rubber

There is a clip in the center storage bin lid? Yeah, I am one of those guys who didn'y see it. Have not looked at it yet, you mean the center storage bin between the seats (ie, the armrest) Guess I will have to check that out...less junk in the glovebox the better. There is no staorage in these cars compared with others I looked at. Corollas have those neat little compartments in the dash like a 626 does. I dig that stuff, too bad the p5 doesn't have em!

Yes, well, they call it an "armrest", but have ya tried to rest your arm on it while driving?

I agree with the lack or storage, but for me it just creates clutter and I am the CLUTTER MASTER!

I don't mind the armrest in the pro at all. Actually I'm not really even sure I rest my arm on it. Its more of an elbow rest. I will have to pay attention later when I go out to where I rest my arm.

I think they should have left out the ashtray and lighter and put some kind of storage there. Smoking is nasty and if somebody did it in my car I would kill them. Plus the ashtray looks pretty worthless for somebody who does smoke. Its tiny. If it was bigger I could at least put stuff in it.
