New Protege ES with GT Package
Sweetness! I love this car even more now than I did on the test drive!
The '99 Jeep TJ Sahara is gone, and the '02 Protege ES is in!
So far like I said I love the car. The road noise is a bit high.. I might put some brown bread down.
I find the engine sounds rough when I start it cold though. Not a rattle like many are talking about.. just rough until it warms up. Strange - is this a problem I should have the dealer look at?

Nice choice! What colour is yours?
As for the engine noise it's been posted many times on the drivetrain topic. Check it out....you will find many postings. Nothing the dealer will really do for you. Kind of sucks.
Just glad I got the extended warranty.

Dont forget that when you start your engine in the morning, all the oil is in the bottom,so it almost runs dry.The roughness of the engine is absolutely normal.(until its warmed up of course!)
I gotta say I'm kinda used to much more rattles and weird noises, since I had a Neon before buying my Protegé,if you had heard that motor in a cold morning, you wouldnt care about your car's engine roughness anymore!!haha!!

Yeah, it's natural that the engine's rough in the morning, so is mine. What I do though is I turn the car on and leave it for two minutes while I'm getting dressed, etc. I come back and it's not rough or anything......

It's Red
Thanks for the replies. It's been a while since I had a 4cyl car so I am still fearful of how this one sounds on a cold morning. My last two Jeeps ran normally just with a higher RPM in the morning.
Seems like a "Pre-Oiler" would be a good idea for the protege if you were going to keep it. (I'm leasing)
The color is Red. We looked and looked. The grey is very nice but there are about 1 million grey ones just in my city alone so we wanted to skip it. We found the black didn't show off the nice front grill and that VERY sexy line down the corner of the front bumper so we wanted a middle color. Red it was!! As it turns out we really like the color.
It's hard to tell when you are looking on the lot, I always like to take the colors I like out and park them in parking lots to see how they look compared to other vehicles.

hey I'm getting mine tommorow:
02 ES GT Black
I test drove the Sentra SE-R, Golf, Acura - and Mazda was definately the best buy of them all.
Anyone know what size the front door speakers are?
