Need some advice on selling my P5
Need some advice on selling my P5
Its time to get rid of the P5 and step it up to an EVO VIII. I'm wondering if anyone out there can tell me if $12,500 would be a good starting point to try and sell at.
They go for around $14500 at the dealers around here, seems kinda high. The kelley blue books says around 13,000.
I have an '02 Black P5 bought in Sept. 2001.
The specs:
It has about 19,xxx mile.
tinted windows
moonroof
abs and front/side airbags
polished stock rims
alpine head unit
two alpine amps (one for the 12" JL audio and other for the alpine type-r seperates in the front doors) rear speakers run off of the deck
Meticulousy mainted. The hood and front bumper will be sanded down and repainted to remove all rock chips and blemishes before its sold.
Thanks for any advice someone may provide!

one thing is for sure....YOU will have more money in YOUR pocket if you sell it outright yourself insted of trading it in....
if you plan on trading it in....get your blue book and look at the WHOLESALE price....not the RETAIL PRICE....and you will have a better idea of what you shoud expect from a dealer....
two...do NOT expect a dealer to give you any more money just because you have a nice aftermarket sound system in the car....they don't care. Its not like its going to get them a lot more money when they sell it.
If you sell it outright yourself....you can expect to get the higher end of retail for your car if its in really good shape....so if for all those options the book says 13K.....then START at 13K....don't sell yourself short.....that just gives you more bargining room if someone tries to get you to lower your price.

KBB is high also. I figure around $11,800 in OUTSTANDING condition (after you fix the paint chips) for PRIVATE PARTY value.
you cant expect to sell your car for retail, because your not a dealer. Doesnt mean you cant get it, but you shouldnt expect to. Fair retail for the same car is around $13,700.
Of course $14,500 is high, what dealer has prices that arent high?
Go to www.edmunds.com for more realistic values, and not the overblown values in kelly or NADA.
And the stereo does absolutely nothing to increase the book value of the car. unless you find a buyer willing to pay more for the stereo, your better off removing it and reinstalling the factory stero.

Damn!
I wished I lived in the States! I just bought my P5 about two months ago and it was double the price of yours new. Not to mention the crazy Canadian taxes. You'd be able to sell that car for about 15-17K here. Of course that is in worthless Canadian "Monopoly" money, but hey.
