need help with clutch chatter prob.
i just got my 02 pro 5 back from the dealer. getting that nasty clutch chatter fixed. he told my wife it was fromm someone riding the clutch. i called him and asked about the tsb on the issue, he said he had not heard about it. then he told us that if we had to bring it back for the same problem agin that we would have to pay for the repairs. since the clutch is only covered for 12000 miles. what's the point of a 100,000 mile warranty if most of the parts are only covered for 12k. has anyone had to replace theirs more than once so far?? if so what was the dealers response. i did a search and was wondering if there was a link for this tsb. and didn't find much. i think part of the problen is i 'm in the military, and live near the base, so the ******* at the dealership must think (1) that i don't know how to drive a manual, (2) i don't know **** about cars, and (3) i'm some frigging idiot who doesn't do a little research when something's not quite right.what this jerk off doesn't know is that i was an ase certified mechanic for 5 yeard before i decided to defend our great nation (for 10 years now). sorry about the rant but any help would be great

All manufacturers only allow a short period for clutch warranty. In there defense they dont know what happened to your car previously. The Protege5 does have a TSB and mine has 37,xxx miles and is being replaced next week. I work for the dealer so they never f- with me but do a search for the TSB and bring it in to him. The 100k waraanty covers most other items that are not wear items, ie pads, belts, hoses, bulbs, fluids, filters and yes your clutch. It is a wear item. Just thought I'd let you guys know, it is all listed on the 2nd page of your warranty owners manual.

I'm really confused. I thought 02s and earlier had a ~36k/36mo warrenty front-to-back. 03s have 50/48. Now I hear 12k for some things, 100k for others. Do I really have to go to http://www1.mazdausa.com/mdap/default.asp#1 for the real answer?

I think you're being hosed. I just re-read my warranty book and it says nothing about the clutch only having 12,000 miles. It does say abuse and wear and tear are not covered. A clutch should not wear out in 12,000 miles and it is up to them to prove abuse. I would go back to the dealer and if you don't get satisfaction from them call Mazda North America. Keep fighting until you get satisfaction.

the situation gets better as the days go by. last night i noticed a grinding when going from 2 to 3 under hard aceleration. at first i thought it might have been me not depresing the clutch all the way. then i tried to duplicate the prob. with the same results every time even with the clutch all the way to the floor. this is the sign of real poor service!!!!!

Page 9 of your mazda owners manual 2003
I will give you the excert,
"normal maintence services such as cleaning and polishing, lubrication, replacement of oil, fluid, coolant, worn wiper blades, filters, worn brake and clutch linings, spark plugs, fuses, keyless entry batteries ect"
And yes you can wear a clutch out in 12k miles, especially if you are a 1st time manual driver. If it is a defect, or has been defected by a covered part, it will be warrantied, and nobody always warrantys these items so dont get mad at Mazda. That is why they are called "Limited Warranties"

how do I know if my clutch is worn out? I'm a first time manual driver but my car has 17000 miles.
also about the flywheel hotspot fix, I called all the mazda dealers in the LA area which is like 7 of them and non of them have heard about it.... and they haven't even heard about the engine rattle too? aren't these service things issued to all mazda dealers? or are they just hiding **** away from me...?

They are probably hiding things from you or they are very ignorant. If you want to complain to mazda, complain about your dealers shitty personel, they will change their attitude quick, also tell them how you are going to score them on the survey from Mazda if they treat you bad, it holds a lot of Value for the Dealer. Without a good service score a dealer cannot be Mazdaspeed or Elite cetified. So use the power you have with that service survey to your advantage.
