The mystery behind Vivid Yellow P5's

So I'm pretty close to buying a P5. The wife has convinced me to sell my 2000 Dakota R/T but anyways about that......

I'm looking for one with air, power roof and 5 speed. The only other option in Canada is auto which I do NOT want There are lots on the dealer lots and sticker price for this combo is 22,590 Canadian. I phoned one dealer who had both a new yellow and demo yellow with the options I want He said yellow is special because they can't order a yellow P5. Mazda sends them yellow ones if they are having good enough sales! A customer can't even order a yellow one. And he said that dealers charging more for yellow is bogus. Mazda issued a letter saying they can't be doing that Dealers here were asking $1k more for yellow. But that also means they probably won't move off the sticker price. He said he could knock off $1000 for the demo. Whatever If he wants a sale, he'll be knocking 2000 of the price or giving me an extended warranty plus 1000 off.

Yellow is just a normal colour...just harder to get, as it's the hottest colour out of the range (still). In Canada, dealers may not sell for more than the MSRP (unless they've added stuff), as it's the law.

You can order one...it will just take a couple of months. You can certainly call Mazda Canada at their toll free number (listed at the www.mazda.ca website) and confirm what your dealer is telling you.

Basically, they just want to sell you the one that they currently have...

Yellow Trash Talk

I live in Arizona, and got the same lame story as the rest of you. I told our dealers to stuff it, they are availible a dime a dozen in San Diego. I was set to get one in SD and one suddenly became available at my local dealer. One of six in Vivid Yellow AZ.

yellow

well i'll tell you the scoop on yellow first hand ( in canada anyways). i have a sunburst (canadian version of vivid) yellow p5. it IS possible to order it and NO the dealer can not charge more for it. however it did take a long time to get it (13 weeks for me). dealers order them like any other car but they are prioritized by the sales record of each dealer by region ( in canada that would be by province). so the bigger and better the dealer...the quicker they'll get your yellow. it was mentioned that the price was 22 something. that seems high. i got mine for the mazda msrp ( no deals for me ) and it was $21,400 plus a "metallic" paint charge that is applied to every color except red ( makes no sense to me) of $200 for a total of $21,600 plus tax, pdi, frieght and all that jazz. i got the recent graduate cash back of $750 as well. so all in all i paid just shy of $25,000 for the whole thing.

Angry All hype!!!

The bone heads at the dealership were i bought my P5 in Nebraska tried to shaft me for an extra $2,000 for a Vivid Yellow 5. I told them that yellow costs no more than any other color and the window sticker included no "special editions." I told them suckas to keep their frick'n yellow 5. They ended up trading it to another Mazda dealership for a Millenia. (I ended up working for the dealership i bought my 5 from) I am more happier with my silver 5.

I didn't clarify that the prices I am being given are freight inclusive. I was in Seattle for the weekend and talked to a Mazda dealer. He said the yellows are hard to get as well. They had WHITE P5's down there. That was interesting to see. And the polished rims are nice. We don't get that in Canada either. What I did notice was how nice the Miata rim would look on the P5.....

Ya know...there really is NO MYSTERY!! all those greedy dealers KNOW that the yellow is their hottest selling color...and they also know that if you DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER....and they can con you out of your hard earned money for something that is supposed to be FREE....then most of them will do it....because for the most part....car salespersons are the most UNTRUSTWORTHY people in the business sector today....every extra dollar they get out of you....some of it goes in THEIR POCKET. and a cars salesperson would just as soon screw you over as to look at you...once they got your money....its a done deal for them...and they don't care how that makes them look....I was once of the opinion that in order to be a car salesperson...you had to have no soul. At least be able to screw people and be able to sleep good at night. in that respect...I feel lucky that I found at least one salesperson when I got my P-5's that delt with me straight up...and actually offered me the car at a LOWER price than I had in my head as fair and equitable for us both!!!

if there are some car salespeople here.....excuse my ranting....and don't take it personal....I have only met ONE salesperson in my entire adult life that I felt was above board and honest....acted like they were working FOR me when I was in the dealership, and bent over backwards to get ME into the car that I wanted.....and of course...it was the salesperson at the MAZDA dealer where I bought my two P-5's

Where do you live Chad? I was by my dealership a few days ago, and saw like 6 Yellow P5's.

Hi, gujustud. I'm in Coquitlam. I know of a few yellows around but nobody is really willing to deal on them. West Coast is still giving me that "the yellow costs a grand extra" crap. I emailed every local dealer today that was listed on Mazda's site

i bought my silver Pro5 here in atlanta at henessey mazda and the salesman i got had only been selling cars one month! he was still honest!! i had a good experience too.
they got me out of my lease w/out me being negative and i put nothing down and only paid like $17,500 or so out the door (that includes tax and all. BTW, tax here was almost $1,500!!! the sales manager almost hit the floor when he saw it!!!).
It was the only silver manual they had or had for that matter. and was only the 2nd or third one in all of atlanta at that time (2mos. ago). i didnt know it but it had 45mi on it. stupid me i never test drove it!! in retrospect, even though i liked the silver, i shoulda got the mid-nite blue one as that colour has always been my favourite!!! and it was fairly new off the truck and might've had NO miles-oh well....
anyways.........the reason i posted was to say that henessey had 3 or 4 yellows. i was in love as they were the only dealer to have any!!! unfortunately, only 1 was a stick and it was fully loaded(which i didnt want). it also had aftermarket rims(i.e. cheap no namers) at an added cost of like $1500!!!!!!!
recently while i was at a job fair where i recently graduated from (Univ. of Alabama) the local dealer had ONE yellow and of course, it was a base model yellow selling for sticker. darn, oh well.

Last post should have been the under thread "How much I paid for my P5". This has nothing to do with the mystery behind vivid yellow.

Whoever said paying more for a yellow car is against the law is correct. I am a salesrep at a Mazda Dealer and we can get the franchise pulled if we sell a car for more than MSRP.
Most reps you see are honest, I've been here three years and am still honest. You can meet all sorts of people doctors, lawyers, bankers, whatever and they can be untrustworthy, the old stereotype of the plaid jacket and white shoes is dead. I am a professional and so are the guys I work with, we are trying to assist you in making what is supposed to be a pleasurable purchase. I could go on but I don't want to rant.
