When did this ticking noise occur? I wonder if its the same rattle/ticking sound when its cold in the morning. I got 10,000 mi on mine now, and I sure hope that I don't have the same problem. Cause yes my car still rattles like a **** when its cold, and the weather is signicantly starting to warm up here, no change in the damn rattle.

i'm sorry to hear that but.....

could you elaborate, cause there is no such thing as a camshaft mainbearing!?!? and i find it very odd that 2 bearing surfaces in different locations would fail at the same time. and it shouldn't be hard at all the get bearings/gaskets for that engine. maybe your dealer is selling you a story

MP5 Prob

hey guys this is what is needing to be replaced.. Rod Bearing#4/the Cam Shaft was slightly damaged so they are going to replace it and also the Main bearings plus seals gaskets etc....What lead up to this was that i was hearing a ticking noise at around 2500 to 4000rpms it was driving me nuts so i took it to Mazda. Took a Mazda Mechanic for ride with me and he was hearing the same thing

if Mazda is cracking the engine to replace SOME bearings....make damn sure that they replace ALL the bearings.....as long as they are there.....not to mention...if you will check your parts that are on the invoice...you can bet your last dollar they charged you for a complete set....you don't just go out and buy ONE rod bearing....they come as sets. make sure that the replace them all. for the simple reason that although these two let go....you never know how much damage has been done to the rest of them.
you might as well start fresh

I'm no expert, but you may wanna make sure they aren't taking you for a ride? Not that they would want to do free work under warranty, but that sounds a little drastic! It seems to me that most of these four cylinders tick a lot. I have owned two Saturns, they did the same. My dad has a Honda civic, it does the likewise.
My P5 ticks also, while idiling and more so when cold starting.
Heck, I had a 2001 Ford Mustang before my P5, which was a POS and why I own a Mazda now, but it rattled like hell when cold and when warm, idiling...

Has your acceleration been off? Running bad? Or just ticking?

I am picky as hell and notice every damn creak in my car... the ticking I think is just the nature of the car.

just my $.02

Hi Guys, New here but would like to say that the ticking you guys are hearing is probably the lash adjusters. If you run a oil that is thick it causes scoring and premeture wear on start up.Once the oil heats up the oil thins and the ticking becomes less noticable as the head lubes. Ford Aust had many problems with the Ford Laser(escort) which came locally fitted with the mazda 1.6 and 1.8. The lash adjusters are sometimes damaged even before you take delivery of your pride and joy by the dim witted employees of some pre delivery companies and sometimes mazdas own pre delivery jocks. I have seen first hand how some brand spanking new cars are treated before they even reach the dealer, not that they take them out ferris bueller style but more of how they are treated after a cold start scenario. I would suggest that any one who has a ticking noise and are still covered by warranty report this at a scheduled service and have them replaced. Also any one who purchaces a new one should pay close attention at delivery time. Any way love ya forum and plan to post.

Hmm isn't that about the rpm range that everyone was bitchin about the rattle when the car is cold? I wonder if we all are gonna have this problem?

I think we posted our opinions......but to say again....if the dealer is really going in to do bearing replacements.....make sure they do them all....they might as well...they are there....

and TELL the service manager you WANT TO HAVE the old bearings....if they are any kind of dealer at all that will be no problem....and you will be able to see the damage first hand.

Swedenhouse....it sounds like the same RPM range but you just never know.....

BOTTOM LINE....COVER YOUR ***

When I was complaining about my cold engine rattle the service advisor brought up a pretty serious problem like that (I think it involved the crankshaft though). But apparently that problem is a different rattle. My rattle is "normal". At least until Mazda gets off their butts and fixes it. So what I'm saying is that I think we have two different rattles and from the damage that his caused I bet it was a lot more annoying than the cold start one. Ask the dealership if there was an M-Tips or TSB released for that problem. Oh. And listen to Sir Nuke. Just replacing one or two is BS and sets you up for trouble later. Ask for em back.

sorry guy, but that still doesn't make sense. if they are actually replacing the main bearing - then all the crank and rod bearings will get done. but i still say BS to it needing the main and a cam. One conrod bearing i could see. Again i just think your dealer is telling you a story for some reason?!?!
