My 2002 protege 5 has been eating up front tires since the day I bought it. No matter what tires I use the inboard shoulder gets chewed up in under 15K miles. I had it aligned(by NTB and Mazda) and it hasn't helped.

Any suggestions? Maybe new coil-overs, a camber change or other adjustment?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

does it have OEM suspension or do you have coilovers/lowering springs on it now?

Dude, you gotta inflate your tires further , using the manfuature recommend plus the lossing air over time factor and weight distribution of the car will lead to heavy wearing on the tires, also due to aging suspension you tires will wear further.

I use 39 pounds PSI in my tires and i use Nitrogen, if you got a friend that works for a industrial or medical place they have lots of canisters of the stuff. it will solve or at least slow natrual leaks you have over time, esspecially during this time as winter comes around. Nitrogen doesnt suffer the same as regular air.

I use about 35 psi all the way around in my Nankangs, but it really depends on the type of tire. I only check in the morning before the sun heats up one side, that'll throw you way off. So will checking after you've been driving, because the temp of each tire varies. They change alot with the ambient temp. I use a tread depth guage to keep track of wear, and when to rotate. Too little pressure makes the car handle like a Caprice. And I always said the Caprice handles like a Boston Whaler.
