My P5 is rusting already, in the wheel well area
I was putting my summer tires back on and I notice some rust developed on the wheel well/fender lip area. I was able to clean it off with some lithium grease and I hope it's just surface corrosion.
Just wondering if the rust develops again is it covered under the corrosion warranty? My P5 is less than a year old.

the corrosion coverage is if it comes from within the panels....so
i dont think fenders are covered. it might have been just brake dust (?).
what you can do is after you clean off the fender lip, wipe it
down with alcohol and neatly put e-tape on it. thatll protect it
better from pebbles and rocks hitting the fender directly...also,
will try to minimize the bare metal surface area. unlike the
fender lip protector sheilds, you wont get water retained
between the fender lip and the sheild either.

I'm in Toronto so yes road salt is a problem. But the car is not even a year old, plus I just did a Krown rust proofing before the winter.
I had a 94 Nissan Altima, never had it rust proofed, and it didn't start to rust until I had it for six years.

That sux that your having those problems already. Whatever you decide to do, if the rust starts to get bad, I would reccomend you use some Por 15 paint. http://www.por15canada.com
Im from Toronto too and have used it on rust spots on all my old cars. From the sounds of your problem though its rocks being throw at the paint. I got my car done by Krown too. My dads always gotten his vehicles done by them and his 92 only has rust spots on it from stone chips.

More bad news...I found that the paint around the area are peeling off with exposed bare metal underneth. Now I think this is a warranty issue.
Should I cover the bare metal area with touchup paint for now? I've schedule an appointment with the dealership but they won't be able to look at it until next week.

If you physically did the damage to create the rust, ie: accident r something, then the rust is your problem. Other than that, ANY rust on your car within the bumper to bumper warranty is COVERED. Go see your dealer... it could be you have faulty paint.... there is always a possibility.
If that doesnt work, doesnt hurt to call Mazda 1-800 and hear what they say.
No car within the first YEAR even should have rust ANYWHERE.... thats B.S.

Don't paint anything until the dealer sees the damage!
