Cool My New P5

Hi all,

Well, I've had my P5 for 2weeks now, and I can say that I think we have bang-for-your-buck cornered with the P5! Everytime I drive it my smile gets wider and wider This car sticks to the road!

For anyone familiar with the Northern California coastline I ran the stretch in Marin County from Tomales to Pt Reyes Station last weekend (lots of flat curves, hills, and hairpins). This car really impressed me! I'm used to riding that stretch on my motorcycle, so I could really push the car, and I was shocked at how well it held in the corners.

I couldn't beat the price ($15,600 USD with moonroof & ABS).

I do, like many others have questions.

Anyone familiar with Formulaone Window tinting? I'm told it's actually made by Llumar, and is an all-metal film. Opinions?

I've been looking into a rack system for the roof, specifically for a bicycle. Anyone have one? Was it compatible with the factory rack, or did you have to buy lots of components? Anyone heard of Barrecrafters? Any issues with fit of bike racks/moonroof?

Thanks for your help,

Sue

I just did a bunch of research on bike rack systems for 2002 P5.

Yakima required buying a full system of towers, bars, and bike mounts, or buy a big cage acrrier that bikes could mount to. Thule had the same, but also provided a cheaper alternative if you have the factory Mazda roof racks (I do).

I bought the Thule 889 Velo Vise Fork Mount Rack Pack. Cool kit to mount bikes to factory rack (comes with one bike mount, but parts for adding a second 589 - Velo Vise Fork Mount) Can't beat the price - about $200 for all. Couple of things to look out for. Make sure the box has a recent date stamp. The older models have a different tray for the bike that is too long (I had a hell of a time exchanging). I was initially concerned that the fitting wouldn't clear the sun roof, after tightening, however, they worked fine.

I don't think Thule took into consideration the rear spoiler. I had to cut about 1" off the trays to provide ample clearance for the spoiler. Without cutting down it hit. The back wheel of my bike still hits the spoiler when the hatch is opened, but at least it doesn't hit when I don't have a bike up there.

Maybe see you driving around Marin!
