MSP reflashed ECU

I have had my 03.5 Mazdaspeed for about a week now. I love it, its one of the most fun to drive cars ive ever driven. The only complaint I have is the lag and boost surges. My friend has a 1.8 turbo Jetta, and that thing has zero lag what so ever. I saw on the internet someone had there ECU reflashed from the dealership, and eliminated most of the lag and surges. Has anyone heard of this, or have done it, or recomend it?

thanks,
Ian

i dont know about the lag, seems like the ECU flash wouldn't really cure it of that, but the Flash does cure the surges from what i've heard, it is a mazda recall so just take it into an authorized mazdaspeed dealership and they will reflash it for free, and should fix the surges...

you'd still be better off dropping $1000 on a haltech fuel controller and forgetting that crappy ECU! I bet with a boost control at 10-11psi and the haltech you'd make 210+whp....the fuel maps on the MSP are SO rich that they bog down any performance gains you may see with bolt-ons.

p.s. I've also heard that the Injen intake removes a lot of the stumble....it does this because it's getting more cold air into the motor so it actually uses up some of the excess fuel.

how much boost could the MSP stock block handle? your sayin 10-11 psi...thats high for something not forged (it may be forged...and 10-11 may be low...im just a little off today sorry)

with proper fuel management a stock block can go a long ways. The reason I said 10-11psi is because it won't trigger the spark cut at that range. If you want more you'll need to buy an FCD and then you risk boost spikes/creep damaging something.

i've read of plenty guys running 10-12 psi of boost on stock internals... its all the same as the P5's as well, cept a forged crank (not sure if other proteges have that or not)...

ECU reflash

I just had my ECU reflashed and it has made all the difference in the world. Before, it would run so rich that it would bog down under normal driving conditions. To keep it from trying to bog down I had to be ***** to the wall at all times. That's just not good for gas mileage and speeding tickets. Now, since the reflash, there is no problem whatsoever and my power band is stronger. Instead of the turbo kicking in around 5000rpm, it kicks in around 3000rpm and is there until redline.

And no, the Injen CAI doesn't take care of this issue. I have that and the Greddy SP2 exhaust, and still had the power surges and bogging down issues. Get your ECU reflashed and you'll be a much happier driver.
