Was that directed at me?

If so, I didn't upgrade it with anything. The DEALERSHIP did it.

The dealership will NOT provide the MP3's ECU flash on a P5. They will not do it. They also don't do anything for the valve noise on cold start ups. I've read their TSB and solutions on it. The solution only stated that the engine, while noisy during this time, is supposed to sound like that. Everything is working fine and NO ACTION IS NEEDED. If they told you they did something then they lied to you. I will find the TSB for you and post it if you don't believe me. The MP3 ECU flash would be nice on a modified P5 however you will have to start running high octane fuel as the flash bumps your timing. I plan on adding the flash to my car once my dealer locates me my mazdaspeed exhaust cam to go with my intake cam.

I have read the TSB. I also have the reciept and the sheet saying the PCM upgrade was done. I'm not alone here. If you think your dealership is lying to you, you should find a new dealership.

correct flash..

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing here.....Your receipt shows that you have a MP5, and that your dealer provided you with the ECU flash for a MP3? And this is in writing? I'm not talking about a flash for the MP5. I'm talking about actually swapping ECU code from an MP3 onto your MP5 ECU. If this is true, I'd love to get a copy of this so I can have mine done also. Several dealerships here said they are not allowed to do this due to the legal problems it can cause. If you know of dealerships that will do it I'd like to go there and have it done. Again, the proof is in the pudding.

My replies were directed at rednecks_r_us. He asked about an upgrade for the P5. I had my P5's PCM reprogrammed. Looks like there was some confusion there...

What exactly did they alter in your P5 ECU? I've not heard about this and I've read all of the TSB's concerning the swirl effect.

They put the new code in for the variable valve timing. There are other owners on this site and other Protege sites that have the same reprogramming done. In fact, the TSB for that was somewhere on this board...

I'd like to see a little more documentation on this. I'm taking my P5 in tomorrow for the MSP exhaust and to have a side mirror replaced. I'm sure it wouldn't take much longer to add a flash in. Can you help me locate the TSB number for this? I'll need it before going in tomorrow. thanks

You shouldn't need the TSB for this. The dealership should have the new code already. Just mention it to them I don't see why they can't do it.

my dealership and I aren't exactly friends. I've just released them from legal action!! I was very surprise to get the MSP exhaust for free on my deal, but they had to provide me with a car whose calue equalled that of the MSP. A fully loaded P5 with sport exhaust, 6disk changer, leather, abs, side air bags, roof rack, cruise, chrome wheels...I think I made out all right. The sticker for my P5 was $20 and I paid $13,8 which was the balance on my MSP. You can't complain. Now if i go in there asking for ECU flashes they make think I'm looking for more freebies. I'll ask around. If they say no then I'll try another dealership. After I get my exhaust and mirror from them I'll be going somewhere else. My next closest dealer is 50 miles away. I think it's worth it to get a clean start somewhere where they dont hate me!

Good one. I just noticed that!
