Question MP5 Transmissions

All:

Being new to the Mazda scene, regarding Protege 5's and transmission types (Manual, Sportshift, or Automatic), I have, what I would think is a simple question:

What makes the sportshift transmission different than the Automatic other than the "sportshift" feature? Are the gear ratios different, is the transmission tweaked, etc.???

Comparison. A board member and I drove his AT car with same setup as my Sportshift, similiar tests, 0-60,60-0, driving patterns, etc. and my car is MUCH faster than his by the butt and jerk dyno. He agrees also. This is in AT mode (not utilizing the sportshift feature).

Please advise!

Thanks.

Same Question

Mazda doesn't specify on their website. Have your friend check his owner's manual against yours for the ratios. If they are the same try driving your friends and yours back to back and check the shift points on the tach. It could be even if our ratios (also have the sport shift) are the same, the computer may hold to a higher rpm. I would be very interested to know since I don't know anyone here with the regular automatic.
