I was at the dealership yesterday getting mine serviced. Went and talked to the guy that sold me my Pro and they still want 1G over MSRP for it. He said he might be able to swing me a "deal" where I could get $700 in accessories installed at the dealer and they would sell it to me then. I don't really want it but I think it is interesting they are still trying to ream people on them.

They are getting the new 2003.5's in. I think they are a little nicer than the 2003 model, but I miss the fog lights. Had a sweet titanium colored one. Someone had already put his name on the list for it but when they called him to say it had arrived he said he would buy it for 19k. They just laughed at him and said no you won't.

Not that I feel obligated to help someone who was crazy enough to spend $35k on a Protege (didn't he research ANY other cars???).

But did this really happen? Can you verify and get more facts about what was said? The price is so extremely high that I think your friend as a REASONABLE claim in small claims court for dealer fraud.

No court would touch a case where a few $1000s are at issue. But he paid well over $10k more than he should have, and the dealership may have lied and committed fraud in making exaggerated and untrue claims about the car.

So if this is true, tell him to do this: First, have him contact MAZDA USA and bitch big time. I think they'd be really pissed at such an extreme mark-up over MSRP. Second, tell Mazda USA that he is willing to sue, and if they don't do anything, tell the dealer he is going to sue for fraud. Then have him research on the internet what it takes to file claims in small claims court (and you may have him contact the Better Business bureau as well).

Someone dumb enough to spend that much doesn't deserve to get one cent back.
