Can someone who has either a black or silver car with the deflector post their pics? I'm debating between a black or silver Protege ES GT 2002 and can't decide on what color to get.

Silver is nice because it doesn't get dirty easily - well it does but it hides it well and black is nice when it's clean But black also shows every single little chip or dent or knick...

Any suggestions?

I have to disagree with you on ONE point....an NICE black paint job is like a mirror.......when you look into it you can see EVERY single little flaw....every scratch...every chip. it has to do with the fact that its so reflective to the background light.

Hi Noodles

I have a bra on my P5, sort of. It is clear and stuck to the front of the hood so no black patch to see. Plus I don't have to worry about having to take it on and off when I wash the car.

Cheers
Chris

Ok...you are going to decide on what color you want depending on how good the deflector look on it? And you people are talking about car bras and deflectors! Whats with that! Seat covers that look like crap and are SEAT COVERS. Cheap imitation(not doing a good job at it) floormats also do not ADD to a car. Polished stock rims are once again NOT A GOOD THING. Do you have dice hanging from your rear view and a Taz decal on your window to? Give me a break.

PJStyles - I've got a silver '02 Protege ES/GT and have both the hood deflector and sunroof deflector. I believe they were $85 each and both are genuine Mazda accessories. Installation at the dealer was $23 for the pair. You can install them easily enough yourself - but if the dealer slips and scratches the paint, he fixes it for free. If you're going to buy this car let me know - I can give you some pricing info from the dealer I bought it from in T.O.

SloppyJoe,

Thanks for the pics and the info. I have already gotten a price for the Protege 2002 ES/GT packaging for $20,200 after the $600 cash rebate. That's about $100 above dealer cost if I'm not mistaken. I'm thinking that's a sweet deal... just waiting to sell my car.

Your looks great.. I'm debating on whether to get the skirts put on it.

That's very close to what I paid - I got mine for $20,449. Dealer cost is $20,352 if its an auto transmission and $19,423 if its a manual according to CarCost Canada. Either way, a good deal at $20,200.

Hey guys.

Well from past experience, both options have their advantages and disadvantages.

The bra isn't the most attractive but it does serve it's purpose. However, within time the bra will leave a permanent mark on your car. Not only can it leave a mark, which is caused by sun fading, it can also result in rust, permanent dirt marks, water marks, etc.

As for the (bug) deflector, it's very light, durable, a lot more attractive, and it won't leave a fade mark/rust/dirt, etc. I have heard complaints about aerodynamics, but that's a whole different story. The downside to having a deflector is the redirection of stones and debris. Occaustionally, stones will hit your windshield, but the design is to redirect the stones up and over your vehicle.

So basically if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the deflector!

Thumbs up

I have a magnetic bra and it looks good and seems to do what it should. Can't say I have gotten it to fit perfectly but pretty close. Can't seem to get it to follow the contour of the hood/

It took me a while to do, but you should use a hairdryer to heat the bra. This will make it very soft and flexible, allowing you to follow the contours.

Lightbulb Found hood deflector online finally!

I finally found a hood deflector for the Protege5 (and 2001 and up Protege) for sale online http://www.autoaccessorieszone.com/focus2.htm#Mazda. Anyone has experience with this particular brand and model? I wish I had some kind of hood protection sooner because I got lots of chips on the hood yesterday due to a 18-wheeler in front of me on the freeway .
