looking to buy an mp5

hey im new to this forum and Im prospecting in getting an mp5. I love how these babies look. Kinda like a cheaper version of an I.S

Well anyway, I'd like one in yellow with leather in auto, I hear these cars are selling like hot cakes and I might have to wait. Back when I was getting my Si, I waited for weeks to get it in EBP,I'm looking to buy sometime in May and Dont really want to wait, Are the yellow ones with leather rarer? If so i might just go early now and pre order one. Also does anyone have pictures of the interior with or with out leather? Is there anything that I might or should know about the car?

Talk to your dealership. Since you are wanting to buy in May they can probably have one exactly like you want either shipped from Mazda directly (this takes a couple of months) or they can run a search and usually find something. You might have to buy a couple of extra options you did not want or even lose something you did. Kind of how the game is played. I know they were able to find my ES pretty quick and it was the only one in the state like it (Silver ES /w 5-speed). All the other dealerships had weird colors and lots of automatics. I was just lucky I was the first person to look for one. They were able to grab it from another dealership directly off the truck.

ipkx: I'm looking to get a P5 also. You can go to mazdausa.com and get inventories of all the dealers in your area, to see what cars they've got, what colors, what options, and their listed price. That might help.

depending on your area...if you want and I mean REALLY want a Yellow one....start looking now or order one....yes they sell like hotcakes....in my area EVERY yellow P-5 was either presold before it reached the dealer....was TOTALLY loaded....or was three or four states away.......and I was not willing to pay someone to fly to it and drive it back...or pay the freight prices to have it trucked over. I got lucky though....and also got a few more options than I originally wanted...but LOVE the fact that I got them now..... :{D

by the way....if you are NOT someone that likes being seen, recognized, if you like to blend in...do NOT get the yellow P-5....I promise....it brings stares where ever you go. :{D

I was just at "my dealer" today, here in the San Fransico Bay Area and they have at least 3 Protege5's in Vivid Yellow...... as for the leather seats, I don't believe that is a factory option, at times some dealerships send there car's "out" for this upgrade.

And If anybody is still looking for a MP3 in Vivid Yellow........ ALMADEN MAZDA in San Jose, Ca has 1 NEW model left!

Later, SpeedBump.

Leather is now a factory option in the US.

Not sure but it is on the US website. Black only, no price listed. Not yet in Canada though. Mine from the dealer.

if you really want leather....save your money...don't get the factory leather....get it aftermarket...not only is it a bit cheaper....it can be customized that way and looks a lot nicer

I ordered my yellow Protege a month ago with leather. March was the first month they started offering leather as an option and no cars were available, so I ordered it just the way I wanted it.

I was told the car would take 8 weeks for delivery. As for the cost of leather, it was around $400. I believe it lists for $490 retail on the Mazda website.

I ordered mine a few weeks ago and also paid just around $400 for the leather option... i know a customized aftermarket job would look real nice but for $400?? i dont think you can get a do-it-yourself kit for that cheap, but i havent looked in a while...

That's what I though as well. The SUV I'm driving now cost me an extra $1300 for leather and after having leather you don't even want to go back to cloth. For the extra $400 I figured I can't go wrong.

Now I just hope that it comes in on time. I had to extend the lease on my Jimmy an extra month to time it with the delivery of my MP5. Not to mention I'm over the mileage limit by a ton already so every extra mile I put on is costing me money. I learned my lesson on that deal and am going to pay for it. Never will I lease again!

well you guys are right...if the leather from the factory looks good....and its only $400 GO FOR IT....the ones I saw here BEFORE they were offering it from the factory, the dealer had marked up $1400!!!!! what a rip off....seeing as how the kits only cost about $600......I had a feeling that the factory option would be at least $1000.....but at only $400....get it if you want leather.

Hey guys,
Leather is a great option - i have leather seats in my 88 RX-7 turbo. But there are down sides to leather also. If you plan on driving in the winter the leather seems much colder than do cloth seats. Also, leather is more slippery. If you plan on really throwing your P5 into the corners as I do the cloth may be better. On my RX-7, the bucket seats fit me like a glove. They have a lot of support on the sides on both the bottomof the seat and the sides. So you don't slide around at all.

I've had my P5 for 2 weeks now and I think the seats are very good. They are extremely comfortable, even on long drives. However, while they offer a lot of support and are better than the seats in all other cars I compared at that price they do not hang onto you like my RX-7s seats do. I slide around a little bit in the corners and I can only assume it would be worse with the leather.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents worth in. Take it or leave it. Either way you will love your P5. (Hi again SirNuke!)

Many Miata drivers with leather seating complain about the same thing - When you start to toss the car around, you're sliding all over the place.

My brother has 2 '92 Miatas, one with leather and one without. Other than the "look" he'd be the first to tell you there is no other advantage to leather seats. They're too hot in the summertime, and too cold in the winter. They're slippery, and after the car has a few years wear on it, the drivers side always looks shabby, and it's expensive to get fixed.

Of course, many folks never own one car long enough for wear to be a problem, and many more will take the "look" of anything, no matter it's drawbacks.

Buy what YOU like, and to heck weith the "critics."
