At least 4 Mazdaspeeds...

Went to my dealer today to order the pocket from the mp3, turns out its now the MSP pocket they want 100 bucks for it. ANYWAY, to the good stuff.... I was talking to the guy that sold me my protege5 and I said "Wow you guys have 4 MSP sitting on the floor, and one spicy orange!" He replies "We have like 6 or 7 total..." Byers Mazda Subaru on Billingsley(sp) Rd. Some great people work there too.

We have 10 in stock right now in Minneapolis. We have one as a dedicated test drive car so anybody can drive it and then buy one with delivery miles only.

LOL

Dude you're in columbus too then! As far as I know, Byers is the only dealer in the area with any MSP's at all! I went there a few weeks back to drive the 6, but I left lusting after the MSP. Did they say anything about having or when they would have the 2003.5?

No, but I can always check. From my understanding there are only 2 qualified MSP dealers in Ohio, one being Byers Mazda Subaru and the other one is up in Clevland. Not sure how that works... anyway.... check the Upper Midwest Section of the board we are trying to get something together... need some more people though!

From Columbus too, there is at least one 2003.5 on the lot at Byers. Looks pretty good without the rack...

my dealer said mazda will only ship the 'speeds out to the ppl who buy into the "zoom zoom". they want them to wear the shirts, sell all "zoom zoom" paraphanelia, and generally push the whole mazda life thing.

they didn't think hawaii would do that. wtf? money is money, if we sell all the damn cars, why cry?

Hex TexPro - you wouldn't have any insider scoup on when Byer's s going to have 2003.5's availalbe would ya? It looks like I'll be buying in the next few weeks sometime, and I could live with the 2003 Black, but I'd much rather go with 2003.5 Titanium. They were telling me July/August though on delivery for these when I asked at Billingsley Rd though, which would be way too late for me - no WAY I can wait that long!

I finally drove a MSP on Friday. Honestly, I like my PR5 better. The shifter was too low and didn't have much feel. The rear seat is a lot smaller (despite what the specs might say, go sit in a PR5 then go sit in a sedan - you'll see what I mean), and the extra 40 horses weren't all that apparent. The handling also wasn't godly, like some may say. I do like the Kenwood stereo components, the different color leather trim on the steering wheel, and the seat fabrics.

The one I drove had about 150 miles on it.

I also drove a Mazda6s automatic (didn't have any sticks). I like the brushed-aluminum-look trim and the exterior styling, but that's about it. The steering wheel looks like one out of an early 90's Accord, the doors remind me of a Sebring or something, and just the overall interior quality didn't impress me very much. You can't even get an aftermarket stereo for it - you'd have to replace the whole dash panel. One thing I DO like, though, is the trunk. You could live in there.

Unfortunatly, whenever I ask when/what they are getting in their answer is never right. I had a Yellow P5 on order for about 4 months, I was told it would be in no more than 2 weeks, before I yelled and got the red one. I will ask but Im sure they will be wrong, as usual. If you do end up going up there talk to Chad Bronbeck(sp) or Mike Rector. Chad REALLY knows his stuff and Mike is a really cool guy. Id say tell them that I sent you, but I dont think you can deal to much on the MSP's. Im going up there Tuesday to pick up my MPV CD pocket I will ask then. Anybody else have any requests?

I went up there Saturday just to "visit" the car.
I talked to Chris the sales manager and the asian girl who is really nice but whose name I can't remember to save my life. I have a good friend/dad of a friend who started selling with Byers Chevrolet a few months ago and I know he'd be beatin me about the head and shoulders if I bought through someone else, even though, like you said, I'm not sure how much difference he can make on the cost.

The only other thing I'm curious about is how aware are they about the rear suspension clunk that everyone seems to be having with the mps's? (Sway bushings? can't remember the diagnosis) I should be talking to my friend today or tomorrow too so maybe he can find out some answers.

Hmmm, so I talked to my friend at Byers Chevrolet & he is looking into doing the purchase for me. They are selling the car at MSRP non-negotiable, so its not like he can get me a better price or anything, but why would I buy a car from them and NOT give him the commission? Right, so anyway - I had him ask their Mazda Manager or whatever about the Titanium MSP and he was told, in low tones, that he should advise me against it b/c (as HE said) the reason for the delay of the model is that they had/are having some difficulty w/ the color & he thought Black was a safer choice. He thought the June/July timeframe sounded reasonable too, which is enough reason for me to go black - but I would have preferred to have the choice at least.
Has anyone else heard this line about the paint? I figured that it could just be that it is just the line that the regional or whatever Mazda reps are handing out right now to explain the delays?
<shrug>

Now if I can just talk my wife into putting a couple thou down out of my CC account so I can get the car NOW rather than wait 3 weeks...

hehe, If I had a wife I would say the same thing . Anyway, It is VERY possible that the paint is a problem. I know they had some issues with the yellow mp3's and the P5's. Im on my way up there Tuesday to pick up some stuff. I will talk to Chad about it, he usually knows his stuff. Let me know if you need anything else!

Edit: I have not heard of any delays on the car, can you show me where you got that info? or was it just from the dealer?

Yeah, that was just from what my friend at Byer's heard when he started asking around. When I asked them at Billingsley RD, they told me July/August for the 2003.5's but they didn't refer to that as "delayed" or anything.
