Question Keyless entry.. does that mean alarm?

Hi, I have a 99 Mazda Protege ES. It has the keyless entry with panic button. Does that mean there's an alarm on the car or is it just there in case some decides to jump me in the parking lot? I've been wondering about this because if not then I'm going to think about a Viper system before I do any other Mods. If anyone has any idea idea at all pleeeease reply. Thanks!

Do you have a blinking LED on your dash? If not I don't think so.

On the '02 there is keyless entry and then alarm is an option. Not sure if it was the same for the '99.

Here's an easy way to find out for sure. Use the lock button to lock it up then use the key to open your door. If the horn starts honking you have an alarm.

99 ES here. I have the Keyless Entry w/Panic button as well. No it doesn't have an alarm. Keyless Entry meaning you get to open the doors unlocking it thru the remote and the panic button is just a panic button that would honk the horn and blink your headlights and tailights and signal lights. Unless there's a red blinking light on your dash, then you probably have the alarm option.

antoher better test is, if you have a few minutes, sit in the car and lock it with the keychain, sit in it for about 5-10 minutes, then open the door from the inside...if it has an alarm, it should go off

My car has the alarm and it has stickers that tell theives that is has one on the 2 front windows.

My dealer showed me how the alarm worked by doing what BlkP5Lethr said to try. Another way I found to set it off is to open the trunk with the key.

Wow...you guys go to great lengths to check this. 5-10mins? Yeesh.

Lock the door and leave the window down. Reach in and open the door. If you have an alarm, you'll know it. The alarm arms as soon as the car is locked; no need to wait.

That's weird, mine doesn't. Maybe they changed that with the 2002 model.

Then again, maybe it does on the drivers side. Haven't tried that.

THanks everyone!! Found out that no I don't have an alarm. Oh well, nothing too important in it right now anyway. Its a good way to lower insurance though so I should probably save up the money for a viper system. Thanks for your help!
