Question K&N Filter for P-5

I've just purchased the K&N air-filter for the P5. The part # is 33-2134. It seems to fit well but I just have serious problem re-installing the lid and lock it tight...

I put the filter in first and then cover it with the lid. Is this not correct?

I reinstall the stock filter, and the lid slides in perfectly.

Any help is appreciated.

I just put a K&N filter in our P5 last week. Make sure the rubber lip on the filter is inside of the box. Went right in without any problems. Good luck.

the rubber gasket is known to get stuck often on those k&n's
on many types of cars...so yah, play around with the filter
and dont force the lid to shut. it should close fairly easily when
aligned correctly.

one dumb question:
when i took out the filter, i couldn't remember if the taller side of the filter faced downward or not...

so what is the proper alignment?

You're right. The majority of the filter goes downward, into the lower section of the air box.

Take a little silglide (or vasoline,) and lightly coat the upper half of the K&N filter rubber perimeter. The airbox lid fits back on best if angled in(tab side angled down, latch side higher.) It's really not a bad fit (unlike some other vehicles I've used K&N's on.)
