I installed a k&n filter into my P5, and didn't say anything to the misses.
She informed me about a week later that the car felt a little sluggish,
since she didn't know anything about the replacement filter she suspected a bad gas or something.
I replaced the filter w/the stock unit (good thing I didn't through the sucker away) and waited
to see If she would notice.
To my suprise, she said that the P5 is running fine...no more bad gas.

I can't ignore her comments, since she is the lucky one who gets to drive this baby everyday.

Did I do something wrong?

If the K&N makes the engine sound noisier, then there is probably a percieved lack of power. Hear more noise == think engine is doing more work to get to same speed. People often complain of a "lack of power" when there is a problem with their exhaust (noisy).

I believe that the K&N is supposed to change the sound a bit, don't have one so I don't know myself.

Did you reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery terminal?

When I had my K&N box filter on, I didn't notice much of a difference. I wasn't keeping track of mileage though.

I have the drop in! More responsive, slightly noisier, better fuel economy, resuable/lifetime ect.

I remember that mine felt sluggish when I first installed it and I simply drove it for a couple hundred clicks and felt better and better. I think its just the computer getting used to the new amount of air flow.

Does anyone think that the k&n filter improves top-end power, by sacrificing a little from the
low-end responsiveness?

In my experience using K&N filters....they seem to allow alot more dirt past the filter than most foam and even some "stock" paper filters do. They do provide a higher air flow but to me multi-stage foam filters offer the same air flow but block much more dust and debris from the engine.
