Well, if it's in your sig., it must be true.

Personally, I do like non-power steering better. I can't say that I'd like non-power brakes, but a little less power assist would be nice.

I have a beef with most all the new technology in cars, and the fact that it's increasingly hard to find a car without them. From cruise control to auto-locking to ABS, I'd just prefer my car without. What's right or safest for me, as determined by somebody else really doesn't interest me.

I am not a rally driver, nor a professional driving instructor, but I have gotten myself into and out of enough close calls to know exctly what my car can and can't do, and to know when to back off because I'm going to get in over my head. Besides, you only ever find the edge by crossing it occasionally (just not on public roads). I can comfortably drive my car at the limit because I've reached the limit and exceeded it before. I know what to do to avoid exceeding the limit, but I also know how to recover if I do. If computer interference were introduced into my current car, I could adapt my driving accordingly, but personally (and it's my car afterall) I prefer not to have my input buffered or cancelled by a computer.

My comments about my g/f driving my car without ABS I'll stand by. For the average driver, (there is a difference between someone who knows how to operate a car, and someone who knows how to drive) I believe it is better to have computer controlled saftey systems. I know that I can control a car better than her with or without ABS. ****, I could drive better than her with my eyes closed - that's not the point. I know that she would control a car better with ABS.

I'm not professing to be Colin McRae, but I am a driver, not an operator of a car.

(I do find it offensive that you automatically think I'm some ghetto punk with "mad skillz yo")

Hey Moxx, congrats on the new car. As for deep snow helping a non-ABS car stop faster, you are correct. This is not 'snake oil', in fact Car & Driver did a comprehensive test on ABS just when it started becoming optional on a few cars. I think the test was done on a Mercedes and a BMW - it's a fairly old issue, but if I can find it, I will give more details. I am not a huge fan of ABS either. One thing I hate (and it's happened a couple of times) is in the rain, if you are braking fairly hard (and in a city like T.O, it usually means you've been cut off again!) and you briefly go over a surface with a lower coefficient (like a painted line or a manhole cover) the ABS briefly cuts your braking power to avoid a wheel locking, when it's not required. What in reality is probably a fraction of a second feels a lot longer, and by the time you get full braking power again, you've covered a few feet more than you wanted too! ABS has never caused me an accident, and maybe has avoided a few, but I wouldn't mind an on/off switch either.
