Installation of a PS2 & TV **PICS**

Ok...so Saturday evening I got bored and figured I'd get off my couch and into my car to do the install. Well, as alot of you know, I hate wires and wires sticking out eveywhere...this include my radar detector wire also.

***WARNING***
Knowing Mazda this will void something....anyway, just a word of caution, I'm a certified Shade Tree Mechanic, as I attended STMSofBS. Don't attempt this if you have no mechanical skills. Also, if your car catches on fire, blows up or goes kaa-put, don't blame me....blame Mazda...they'll wipe your tears, I won't.
***WARNING***

So, here's where I begin:

Tools/Parts Needed:
A helping hand from a friend (with our cars, you BETTER have one) Free, sometimes giving them candy helps too...ooooh....wait!
Flathead screwdriver (every tuner should have a tool kit) Free
Electric tape (see above) Free
Twin-socket cig lighter splitter (I got "In The Zone @ Auto Zone) $6
DC to AC car converter (Audiovox @ $30) Just about anywhere
In-car TV
Playstaion 2

PREP:
Decide where you're going to install the TV and the Game system. I decide on my PS2 because it plays DVDs and games...and it's sleek enough to fit under the seat.
The TV, well, for now it stays stealth mounted in the glove box.

Remove head unit
Remove bottom section
remove cig lighter plug
Remove ORANGE circular surround, by pulling toward you. There are 2 clips, once those are moved, it will come off completely.
Unplug the cig lighter cylinder from the male power source.
since it won't have any protection, I used electric tape to completely cover the bare metal (ensuring nothing touches it and shorts the system.

Now, the hard part:

I knew where i wanted everything to go, it was just a matter of "will the wires be long enough".
The PS2 is under the seat, the TV in the box and the converter is under the dash just above the passenger foot rest (to the right of the AC vent down there.

I plugged in the splitter into the stock cylinder. there's not a whole lot of room back behind the dash, so this where your friend comes in. I got down under the dash on the pass. side and ran the wires from under the seat, underneath the center tranny section and up behind the dash. Getting the plugs into the holder was an extremely tight fit. But after some tugging and pushing, we got it all in.
the radar detector cord, I REALLY hate that thing, it was an eyesore, it had an extremely long cord, so I opted to use this to my advantage. My detector sits top dead-center on my dash, so I ran the power core along the winshield/back dash section and down around to the pass. door frame. The side pops off (runs into your glove box) and I sneaked it in through there. I ran it along the top of the glove box and back behind the dash and plugged that one in no problem.

After that, i busted out the screen. I didn't have the makers' instructions, but i had already installed one before, so I went off memory (your best bet is to follow the directions given). After I hooked up power & ground cables and ran the lines back to the glove box, I did my test and without a doubt it worked.

The only thing i noticed is when there is heavy vibration, sometimes the plug can get shaken loose, that happened to me on Sunday morning, but a quick trip below the dash fixed that. Also, until I find an alternate location for my inverter, the top kick panel (w/the opening for the AC vent) on the passenger side has to be left off. Doesn't bother me any, you don't even see it. Stage 1 Weight Reduction.

I also opted to go wireless, and using my cheapy GAMESTOP wireless PS2 controller, it suits it purpose well, as my buddy Shawn played God Of War for 2 hours on the ride up to the GACC meet yesterday.

And yes...here are the before, during & after pics.

-Phil

Nope.....it's unauthorized, but so is sleeping w/the enemy or higher-ranking military members....so I do it anyway...well...in or around my office, since everyone in my building is non-military...lol. Shhhhh...don't tell though!

Ummm, the install took a little less than an hour...probably 45 minutes if I really had to guess-timate on it.

Thanks for the compliments!

I actually need a new mounting bracket for this TV...I can't find it around my car-closet. I'm getting an in-dash dvd combo and my buddy has an LCD screen coming in from Japan (17") that he's going to sell to me for $100...I'm going make a custom bracket for that and put it in when i got to car shows etc.

I want to get as much performance stuff done ASAP, so I can get the exterior mods done & show-worthy by NOPI...then i can save up for the WOMP for my Xmas present to myself.

I need to go to HD or Lowes and get some metal to make a bracket so I can bolt it down under the seat. I'm actually considering getting one of the newer, slimmer models and using that instead.

Is it going to kill someones knees in an accident? Maybe it would go better under the seat?
