Injen cold air intake

I just installed a Injen cold air intake on my new MSP. I followed every step and am pretty sure everything was done right. I started the car and let it idle for about five minutes. But as soon as I went down the drive way the car stalled on me. It will try to crank and will sometimes run, but not for long. The engine sounds like it is getting way to much air and gogs down. Shouldn't the computer fix it or is it something else?

Did you happen to reset the ECU? To do so, disconnect the negative battery terminal cable, wait for a few minutes or so, push the brake pedal a few times, and reconnect. Your clock/radio presets will be gone, but the ECU should "relearn" the new air intake as you let it idle for another few minutes.

If that doesn't work, did you maybe get some dirt into one of the intake sensors/wiring connectors? Just some thoughts, best of luck to you!

I finally got it fixed. if I would have had a flashlight I would have seen it. As it turns out the Injen popped out as I went down my drive way. Once I put it back in and retightened the clamp it worked fine. It sounds so awesome, I love the sound of it sucking air through all the gears. It's also made the BOV alot louder. If I wanted to replace it with a hks ssqv do I have to buy the flange and custom do it, or does the universal pipe flange work??

hey daniel, do you have pics of the install. cause i was goin' to put an injen cai as well but someone told me that i'd have to cut my hood or something for the cold air to get it. i don't know about all this, but i'd like to learn.

I'm sorry I don't have any pics of it. But no you don't have to cut anything to get it in. Injen sends a pretty detailed instruction manual on how to install it. The only the you really have to change is that you have to relocate you overfill bottle. But its rather simple. All you have to do is drill a hole in the flange supporting it and bend the *** end down flat. Just make sure you tighten all of your clamps down good. or it'll pop off.

Question Daniel

Where did you purchase your Injen intake at? I don't really know much about intakes, and didn't know that they make much noise. How loud of a noise does it make? I mean, does it make noise when shifting while driving?

No it doesn't really make noise while shifting. But I geuss it does increase the load on the bov. Because the bov is much louder. After each gearshift the intake sucks a lot of air even throughout the rpm ranges. It isn't like a roaring sound but it is loud enought intimidate any would be racers. I love it. Today I just I my MSP's computer flashed to fix the slight hesitation after shifts. It seems to have done the job. The cheapest place that I have found that sells my Injen cai is www.adventon.com. It was somewhere around $220.00 with the shipping charges, most other places where around $250.00 plus. If you go to msprotege.com you can find a list of all applicable parts for the MSP, that thatguy has found.

so do you always have to (reset ECU)disconnect the negative and let it sit fo a while prior to running the car after this intake install? or was that just an idea/suggestion for the fix?

You need to reset the comp and allow it to run so that it can adjust itself to run at it's best.

If you moved from sea level to Denver, you would not want to run a marathon without adusting yourself first.

Anytime you have to work on your vehicle (especially when it involves electrical parts) you sould always disconnect the negative lead on your battery if not both of them. This prevents a short from occuring. When you are finished with the install you hook the lead or leads back on the battery posts. when you crank the engine the computer automatically relearns it's new desired settings. JAL1639 is wrong when he says you have to reset the computer to altitude changes. The computer nows how to adjust itself without your reseting it. Sorry if I misunderstand what you were saying. But when you hook the battery back up you need to let it idle for atleast five minutes so that the computer relearns how to idle itself properly.

He was making a comparison, not stating a fact. He said if YOU went to Denver, YOU would need to adjust to the altitude, not your car. Just as your CAR needs to adjust to the new settings.

I just installed my own Injen this morning and had no problems with it yet after running around town, to work, etc. It sounds awesome! However, on my last trip to the store, i thought i felt a little power loss/bucking or lurching at about 40mph in third gear. I think i'll let it idle for awhile tommorrow before going to school. On a side note, i found noticeable power gains through the whole range, but especially in fifth gear. You can now pick up speed more quickly on the road when cruising in fifth.
