i gotta 2 problems! please help
1.i was fueling up my p5 this afternoon and noticed that i was leaking a fluid, im assuming its gasoline. it was coming from a round white piece undernieth the body on the driverside. this piece is towards the rear if you look under the rear bumper youll see it, its about 2" round. anyways it was leaking from one of the 3 holes that are in it. i dont know if it is supposed to do this if you overfill your tank or what, does anyone know what this piece is for?
2. the second problem is that my car died 4 times within 8 miles. this started immediatlly after i noticed i was leaking a fluid. anyways i talked to one of my teammates at the shop and he said that it was probably a vaccum leak or something. it diddnt do it before i put the injen intake on. ive had it on for about 5 days now and have not had a problem. he also said i should try resetting my computer. its disconnected right now and ill probablly leave it like that for about another 45minutes. any ideas on why my car is doing this?

lawn ower, weedwaker, protege 5 same thing right. just kidding. kidding aside i did top it off but the fluid was not coming from the spout where you put the fuel in it was leaking from that little white thing i was describing. its not leaking now and it only did it when i filled up and then for about 2 minutes afterwards approximently. could this be a over flow system of some sort?

I beleive if you look in your manual it will caution you about TOPPING off your tank...
I am not POSITIVE about this...but the last NEw car I had (1999) told you specifically NOT to do this...and because there was a line that was attached near the top of the filler neck...it was part of the emmisions reducing CRAP on the car....had to do with sucking out fumes or something...anyway...IF you overfilled the tank...raw fuel would get into it and cause it to run rough untill the gas in the tank was used up to the point that the line was uncovered and it could return to doing its job properly.....
sounds like we have something similar....which may be what caused your car to die a few times....till the line was uncovered again.
can anyone either confirm or deny that this is what happened? and what the little white disc acutally is? I would just go and crawl under my own car and look and follow any lines under there...however....my car is at home and I am at work! lol

Im not sure if this applies to the P5, because Ive barely looked under the hood, BUT... in my ITR, when I installed my CAI, I had to disconnect a vaccum line from the throttle body (actually it was closer to the fuel injection system). This vaccum line USED to run to a butterfly valve in the car which helped low speed response. Because the resonator was removed due to the CAI install, the line that went from the butterfly valve (part of the resonator) to the throttle body was no longer needed. If you left this unplugged, which I did orginally, the car would rev up high/low/high/low then die once in awhile. There was another valve that was plugged (three valves in a row), so what I did was buy a piece of washer fluid hose, cut it to a decent length, and run one end from the open valve to the one that was previously capped... thereby capping both of them... the car worked perfect after that.
I dunno, its worth taking a look and making sure if you removed a vaccum line you capped it...?

I have the injen CAI on my 02 P-5....there wasn't a vaccum line to remove.....only the breather line from valve cover.....but....it wouldn't be a bad idea to look under there to check that you didn't knock something off ACCIDENTLY....and didn't realize it.

Same thing for people who "have" to wait for the tank to get to "E" before they get gas. As if its a rule or something. I personally like to fill my tank up when its 3/4 empty.
As for your problem, im not sure what it could be. Sounds to me that if you overfill anything, it may cause problems...

well I got out the manual and read it from cover to cover tonight...and there is NO warning in it anywhere telling specifically that topping off the tank will cause a specific problem. The only warning is if you don't put your gas cap back on securely that the engine check light would come on, and that had to do with the emmisions equipment, but didn't describe what or why.

On the topic of over filling, I was at the gas station a few months back and some old lady was filling the tank. ANd unknown to her, all the gas was coming right back out or the tank. Apparently the fuel line was not connected. Luckily I was awake that day. She said she had just gotten dealer work done on the tank.
