I brake for questions!

Hey all, I'm looking to do the brakes on my '99 Protege LX-Touring (75 000 kms front 80% wasted!) in a few months.

I'm going to install the crossdrilled rotors and KVR pads up front. Has anyone installed these on a Protege? How do they work...good? My performance parts dealer has them on his Lincoln Mark VII and they work awsome but that car has good brakes to start. He also put them on his wifes "'scort type R" (Escort wagon) and they seem to work well.

Also is there anywhere I can go to find out about the rear disc conversion? I've been to the FAQs and I'm looking for someone who has done it so I can get the parts numbers and/or models scavenged, and approx. $$ spent. My car is a 4x100mm bolt pattern car and would like to keep it that way. Are there now any 4-bolt/4-disc Proteges in NorthAmerica or just the Familia etc. overseas?

Here is the big question...
Some Gen3 Proteges have TTL rear suspension and 4x100mm bolt pattern as does the MX-3 V6. Could the parts retrofit?

Now I noticed in the FAQs that not all the Proteges benefit from the 4-disc set-up...Is this so with the Gen3?

I would disagree with Richard. I had xdrilled rotors on 94 Escort GT and was very happy with performance. I autox and beat the crap out of them on racetrack. My friend had Brembos on his GT and he got 100000km out of them without any cracking-they just wore out(he did not race)
Price is not that diffeerent compared to mazda original-about $120 canadian each at KVR in Ottawa.

Do not use "generic brand" brake pads-kinda defeats having xdrilled rotors.
Protege has enough brakes with rear drums-conversion would be waste of money. If not for ABS they would lock up anyway, right?

With the use of slotted rotors would they not wear out faster as the slots shave the pads during braking? I was wondering about the rear disc conversion moreso for the looks as I feel discs look better behind a set of nice rims compared to drums. The possible better braking with rear discs would be just a bonus. The rear wheels are there just to keep the back bumper from dragging anyway!

Cutting an "X" in the pad...? Sounds like a great mod...cost of a hacksaw...haha!
Has anyone done this? I would only be causious from the possibility the pads could fail...do they?
