horse power?
does any one know how much horse power a 2000 Protege es has stock? I want to start building mine up and i'd like to know how much horse power it has. also does anyone know quater mile times, 0-60, or any thing like that for my car?

The crank HP was/is 122 (?) for the 1.8L. Car & Driver got mid/high 8 second 0-60 time, I want to say 8.4-8.9 thereabouts. The 99-00 model was lighter than the 01-03 version, but supposedly some suspension geometry changes in '01 really made the car handle even better. Revised roll center (lower in front, higher in rear) and some beefier suspension pick-up points. Not that the old one handled bad either. Folks in here say the 1.8 revs more freely and doesn't suffer the corner-exit wheelspin problem the 2.0L seems to have. Hope this helps.

are u sure that 0-60 is in the 8's i tried it today but i really wasn't pushing it hard at all (didn't even red-line it) and ran like 13 seconds(it was pretty bad conditons though)

hehe i got the lightness of the 99-00 models, with the 2.0L engine...
kinda almost best of both worlds.... if i'm gonna keep the car, and not trade in for a mazda3, then i will get an aftermarket suspension kit, plus I/H/E, but suspension first... some nice struts with some nice coilovers... and see where i go from there
but yeah the 1.8L has 122hp (i need to change my sig to state that i got the 2.0L) the 2.0L have 130hp.... but yeah the conditions need to be fairly nice.....to get 8 second 0-60, and you also gotta be a pretty decent driver...
but the 1.8s can also spin their tires in a hard corner
the quarter mile is around 16 seconds if i remember correctly... ithink like mid 16s
