Help - Looking to buy a new 5
#4
hi PJH and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.
make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.
Welcome!!
my best advice....BUY ONE NO MATTER WHAT!!! even if you can't find one EXACTLY like you want....you will not be disappointed by this wonderful car.

I've had my p5 for, nearly, two years. The occasional rattles are the only problems I've had. But, you'll have those regardless... This is my first, new, car and I have no regrets. I just wish it was faster. Best of luck.

Go to www.carsdirect.com and pick your P5. select only the options you want. then go to www.mazdausa.com and click on protege5 from the list in the middle of the screen on main page. then click on search inventory. now choose your color and transmission type. this will search inventory of dealers in your area and will list their MSRP. try to find your car with the options that you want. I just got my P5 2 days ago doing it this way and saved a shitload of money. ok back to the inventory stuff. once you find a P5 with the options you want call the dealer and ask if they can beat carsdirect price. dont tell them the price over the phone. you need to go in there with a firm hand and say if you cant beat this then im buying thru cars direct. I got a lazer blue with these only options (moonroof/6cd changer package and automatic transmission.) I got the car 2% above dealer cost.

dont pay too much!
I hate to always post the same thing... lol.... sorry for those who have heard it before, I just want everyone to enjoy thier purchase as much as possible.
I LOVE my P5, its perfect for what I wanted. I paid straight invoice on this car, and you shouldnt pay any more than that. They have a $2250 rebate (and another $500 if you are a recent college graduate) on them right now cause they arent selling as well as they want them to, so just get your invoice price from Edmunds.com or kbb.com, subtract the rebates from that price, and that is how much to offer the dealer. Then do like digitalricepape recommended... look up the dealer stock online, and find the exact car you want. CALL the dealer (DO NOT GO THERE UNTIL THEY AGREE TO YOUR PRICE), ask to speak to someone in Internet Sales (all dealers have that now) and tell them some other dealer (pick any one, they dont check) is giving you the exact car you want at whatever price you came up with when you did your math before. Ask if he can beat it... I almost guarantee they will. And, u can keep playing this game over and over with other dealers if u want to try for the lowest possible deal. Or... take the first good price, at least u know u got a fair deal.
If you really want to play hardball... calculate a fair out-the-door price, with taxes and registration and everything together, and bargain with the dealers on that price instead of a cost+++ deal. That way the dealer cannot add in any surprise profit later on like extra doc fees or do like one dealer tried to do to me and not include the destination charge in the prices he was quoting me until the very end of the process.
I paid $14,400 for my P5 with sunroof/cd changer and 5-speed...

I know it's not exactly what you are looking for, but I was quoted on an email for an '03 lx sedan, $12.7k on an MSRP of over $16k. That's without even going to the dealer, so I'm sure there's still room to negociate on it, plus MazdaCredit has 0% financing offers right now.
Like everyone here is saying, now is a great time to get an awesome deal on a Protege sedan or Protege 5.
(But if you want a great deal on a slightly used 2003 WRX, contact me...)

I got my laser blue P5 6 months ago, and I LOVE it...do not wait for the 3, because I heard it will be more around the Mazda 6 price range......granted it will have 60 more HP, but it is still more money. My car is AWESOME!!!! It isnt fast, but is quick and responsive....it handles like a front wheel drive Miata ( I had a 1990 for 3 years). The storage is amazing, and the options are cool. If you got the $, spring for the Subaru WRX Wagon, but this is the next best thing.....same looks for thousands less. Also, this will be the lasy body style offered, so you will not take a huge depreciation hit later on. GO FOR IT....I payed $16500 for my laser blue 03 with 5-speed, 6-disc, cargo tray, cargo rack, Polished Aluminum wheels (Chrome looking).....well worth the money.
