Grill Woes

I found a chip out of my plastic grill--is this something replaced by Mazda, insurance, or am I just plain ol' stuck with it? It's not the worst thing to have happen, but it doesn't look great either.

Well, it certainly is not a warranty item unless you can prove it was damaged by Mazda or was caused by faulty and/or poor workmanship by Mazda. Your insurance can probably take care of it, but the vast majority of deductables are more expensive than the part itself! The best way is to either live with it or buy a new one.

Those are cool grills! I wish they made them for the '99-'00!

I would also try not to get the insurance company involved if you don't like your premiums to go up (I work at an insurance company). For what the dealership will charge you for your grill, I would buy that $70 grill kit referenced above. It's pretty cool looking to me even though I'm usually not one to go for that kind of thing. I wonder if that kit will work for a 2001 ES?

At least tell everyone why we would be disappointed, what is wrong with them? - poor quality, crappy fit, bad instructions, lack of customer service - what?. Another question, their site says for P5's up to '01 - is there a diffrence in grills between '01 and '02? And it says that it is a set of 4 pieces, yet I only see 2 - where do the other 2 go?

Considering that the Protege5's first model year was 2002, I would say there is a whole lot of difference! The '01 didn't exist!

I know that - I was thinking they might be talking about the '02 P5's produced in '01 - Like the '03 Hyundai Tiburon that is made in '02. I guess I miscommunicated my question.

Ahhh... There have been no changes to the grill, or the any of the body for that matter. The only change was the mid-year refresh which added the clear fender-mounted side markers and new wheels.

I've gotta agree...be forewarned, AT Grills are not the best in the world. Do a search and you'll see. There's been a LOT of complaints in the past, which is the main reason I've never bought one.

Are there any decent grilles available that DO not have the Mazda emblem on them? I want to get rid of it to clean up the appearance of the front.
