Getting annoyed

So the dealer I got my car from had a MonsterFlow short ram installed as part of the package from this place in town. For almost a year now I've been trying to get the "cleaning/treating" kit from this place but to no avail. Keep getting "just wash it out you dont need to treat it." So today I take a look at it and its barely hanging on to the intake pipe! The crappy pos rubber adapter the filter was attatched to split.

I go on line to the MonsterFlow website and its closed? After some checking around I find out you should NEVER run a foam air filter without treating it with oil or such. So I'm done. Tomorrow I'm going to replace it with a K&N. Anyone have any bad luck with them?

Sorry for the vent.

Don, the filter you have sounds pretty bad. Sounds like you just need a better filter, the k&n cone would be good. You can buy the cleaner/filter charger at any auto parts store. They sell the k&n cleaner kit for like $10.

Figure thats what I'm going to do tomorrow. Kind of pissed at the place that installed it, they didn't do the greatest job on the muffler either. Might visit my buddy @ the dealer and see if I can recoup some costs.
Thanks for the advice. I've always used K&N before, should have changed it right away. (keeping the chrome short ram though )

Don, is the monsterflow that gigantic yellow filter? I saw it on the P5 at the car show, and IMO they wanted WAY too much money for what you get for that thing...

pic of it: (hope it works)

Check this out:

http://www.unifilter.com/caremaintenance.htm

They make foam filters and have cleaning products. I know it's a different brand, but I guess foam filters are foam filters.

No its not the Yellow one, newfiep5 has the same one I DID.

Bought the K&N today and put it on. "Seems" to have a little more torque and rev a little smoother. Kept the chrome intake pipe though. Going to have a little talk with my dealer about the place that installed the stuff originally.

Thanks for all your help,

Don

PS. If your in Calgary I can Highly recommend Unlimited Performance. The service I received was amazing, half an hour calling all over canada for a $3.00 adapter! If you want to know who not to deal with, just ask and I'll mail it to you. Not in the habit of slamming companys on the web.

I think that the web is our best defense against these bad companies. If they aren't going to strive for excellent customer service then let's shut 'em down. If you have a problem with a company they should work to rectify the situation. As consumers, word of mouth is the best weapon we've got. There's a difference between slamming a company and reporting a bad experience. The key is also to report the good experiences and keep the good companies in buisness.

Just a look out.

sjdmp5 and anyone else...

I had installed a K&N cone on my '99 Gen3 basically from new (first upgrade). I was having problems with the fuel system, the computer was having trouble reading info and setting the right mixture.

Cure...built a shield to separate the filter from hot air passing through the radiator. It's been on the car with the shield for 55 000kms (34,000mi) now!
