Mod Away!

Hey guys...long time no see...how's it hangin?

Anyhow, this talk about voiding the warranty? In my case, I'm at 72000 miles so no warranty for a couple of thousand miles, and I had the satisfaction of doing my own oil change today (Mobil1:) ) I have this thing down to an art! Took exactly 6minutes and 34 seconds...I timed it! I cheat though...I use the big, sturdy plastic Rhino ramps! I agree...it sucks to have to take your car to the dealer for service, and get taken by the dealer at the same time...not to mention the wait you have to go through to get taken. I refused it after the first 12000 miles, when the "look it's not working the way I like it so fix it " period was over.

So, now, at 72K, I have no warranty...so, I say, "MOD AWAY," cause it don't matter any more anyhow!

Now, If I could only figure out how to do a rotate and balance by myself without having to take it to this dumb-shit tire place down the road (have to retorque the lug nuts every time...some are even loose).

Ever read Corky Bells Book "Maximum Boost"? Corky has a section about warranty claims and when to mod..

(paraphrasing) "When your engine is new and out of it's "break-in" period is when it is the strongest. Why wait for your engine, seals, gaskets, internals to weaken before modding?? It makes sense to mod the vehicle while it's still strong. Waiting for it to age and soften isn't going to help things."

I hear you...but with proper care, these cars remain strong...I feel that mine is as strong or stronger than the day I bought it! Anyway, I really didn't get into this stuff until I was at 40K or so anyway. Still not many mods, but to me, it is vicarious....the Prot is my everyday, get to work car.....

To be totally honest, I miss my '94 Volvo 850 Turbo. Would love to have that back and fully modded with Chip and all, but had to sell it when we bought a new '04 V70 turbo for the wife...somehow she always wins. I've been keeping my eyes open for awhile for another 850, hopefully a '97 with stick shift, as I keep putting more miles (about 120 a day) on this car, driving it to and from work, on one of our Interstate highways.

yeah, I'm rolling the protege and my wife is waiting for her 05 Mustang GT to come in.....how did that happen?!?! I'm the car-guy in the family!
