Unhappy [UPDATED] Flat tire covered under MP5 warrenty? help..

this morning walked down to my garage and my back tire was flat. took it to a shop and they said theres a gash in the sidewall and cant repair it. i saw the gash and its not that big but its decent. No one did it, i actually hit something on the freeway the night before. so does anyone know if this will be covered under my warrenty on my P5. its got like 3200 miles on it. Im planning on taking the tire there(i already took it off the car and the car is on a jack in my garage) and saying that i woke up and it was flat and no one did it cuz its in my garage and then hopefully theyd give me a new tire? what do u guys think? any ideas?

Info:
its my driver side rear tire, had the car for about 2 and a half months, got about 3200 miles on the car, umm, lets see, got two opinions and they said i have to buy a new tire.

Mission:
Get a new tire for free from mazda..

how do i do that?

I seem to recall that when I picked up my P5 the salesguy gave me some speach about the tires on the car. I am pretty sure that they are covered for a certain amount of time, and after that they are pro-rated for replacement. Kind of like a road hazzard protection plan that you can get from a tire place.

I don't have all the papers and junk that they gave me handy at the moment but if you have them you might want to take a look through them to see what is in there.

I doubt it will be covered by the warranty. Warranty on tires are only against defects (like those firestone tires on those Ford Exploders *LOL*). Gashes in your tires fall under road hazards. And i believe some places when you get new tires, you can add a few bucks for road hazard warranty so they will fix or exchange it for free (depending on treadwear).

Good luck and Merry X'mas!

called dealership, couldnt help me, called dunlop, couldnt help me.

BUT....
check this out, this one tire place by my house is willing to give me a clean trade for one of my good tires to a Dunlop 9000 tire and ill have to buy the second one. So what that means is ill get 2 tires for the price of one with balancing n all. Also, from what i hear the 9000 tires last longer and are supposed to be better, Anyone know anything about tires to tell me the difference betwee the Stock Dunlop SP 5000M and the SP 9000? i think ill also have the put the 2 9000's up in front and put the 5000's in the back. oh, the 9000 tire is gonna cost $153.00 USD. cheapest i could find it. No one even carries the stock tires we have and ive even gotten, "it doesnt exisist in our Dunlop book"

Any advice comments?

Sounds like a good deal. The SP 9000s are the Dunlop's top-of-the-line tires. I believe they come standard on the MP3s.

Talk to a Dunlop tire dealer. I hit something in my Shelby Charger GLH and slit the sidewall like yourself. Went to a Dunlp dealer to buy a replacement (D40 M2) and surprised when I found out they had a factory Road Hazard protection. New $300 tire (cnd.) $86.00 Call a dealer before buying new rubber.

Tire Rack has the 5000m in stock for $104...FYI.

Any benefit given by better tires is probably negated by not having them all match.

I read in another forum that there's a BIG difference between the SP5000 and the SP5000M, something about spec/non-spec...

There is a big difference. The SP5000 Asymmetrics are heads and tails above the symmetrics in wet traction. The M's are symmetric, the regular 50 and lower series SP5000's are asymmetric. I like them though, they function very well for me....not sure what other differences are. Anyone?

ok, heres the final update, I got 2 new tires, Kuhmo's 205/50/16 in the back. These tires are bigger compared to the normal 195 and they feel much softer and smoother. couldnt wait for the tire place to order the dunlops and ive heard nothing but good things about kuhmo's so i said what the hell, why not. Anyone know anything about kuhmos?

Just for the record, read your manual. OEM tires are not covered by Mazda (or any car manufacturer's) warrenty. Road hazzard warrenty does not apply to OEM tires either from tire manufacturers. I know I went through this with my GF's mustang. Unless you can prove it was a defective tire, your SOL.

Sorry
Stocker.

Agreed... I have noticed some very "neat" handling characteristics with mixed tires front and back.. specially since the new ones are not even the exact same size.

damn, i was afriad of the whole mixing tire thing. They guys said it wouldnt be bad cuz i have kumhos in the back and dunlops in the front. The thing that worries me a little is that i have 205 in the back and 195 in the front. will this make a difference when i get them rotated. Its going to be really really hard to get 2 new tires cuz i dont have the cash flow. Im probably gonna stick with the setup i have now for a few months until i get new 17' rims an stuff. This wont be that bad will it? the car still handles awesome n stuff.
