first mod

so i want to make my first mod to my '02 p5. i'm having some trouble deciding on the injen CAI or the AEM SRI. i can't seem to find any info on the differance between the two. i understand the basics. is one better? if so, why?
thanks for any thoughts!

CAI-Filter in fender well.
SRI-Filter in engine bay.
There is a slightly increased loss of power in the lower rpm range with a CAI.
SRIs tend to be noisier.
Don't expect much power gain with either. 2-4 whp tops. But you car will rev smoother and will pull better in the higher rpms.
Oh, and save your money and buy an e-bay intake for 60$ (or less). Just make sure you buy one that fits. If you're not sure, post the link here.

My first mod (and only mod, so far) was installing a TWM Performance Short Throw Shifter Kit. And man, what a difference. Driving is so much more fun now. Best bang for your buck in my mind.

i've looked at the ones on ebay and the look kinda cheap. that makes me nervous. if the name brands are made better i think its worth the money.

I forget who said it on here, but I know somebody had a good point. "A metal tube is a metal tube" or something along those lines. I dont have one yet, but many people on here and elsewhere have one anf it seems to work just as good as any other.

Thats how i am too, but from what i've heard the gains are the same, I personally would buy an Injen because they are said to make the best CAI but thats just my $.02.

that would be Roddimus Prime,,, 'a bent pipe is a bent pipe', good point though.
Most of us have the ebay intakes, and we upgrade the filter to the K&N..

I personally have the ones from ebay and had it since april when i first bought the car. No problems, love the sound at 3k..

hope that helps.

I bet the AEM or Injen ones make a difference....to the pocket book. Personally, I have the ebay one. I'd rather spend my $$ elsewhere.

Ain't it the truth. My SRI was a whopping 48 bucks. Someone please show me on a dyno graph that the AEM is $100 better.

I have the Ebay CAI and it looks IDENTICAL to the Injen that retails for $225. I paid $48-60 for my CAI.

just fyi though...the fastest protege at our meet was Jonesboy running only the ebay cai, obx header (cheap) and obx catback (cheap). I don't think because something is cheap it's not as effecitive. My supercharger kit is almost $600-1000 cheaper than some turbo kits and I had no problem outrunning all of them.

BACK ON TOPIC....my first mod would be a AWR front motor mount....oh wait you have an automatic?? yeah, I'd still get it.

I say for a first mod it should be a set of springs! It will be a hole new car. And if your willing to spend that much money on the intake than spending 200 on springs is with in your buget. Then go the ebay route. I also have the ebay intake and it rocks 60.00 to the door.
