engine check light

engine check light

can reset the engine check light without going to the dealer?..thanks for any help

Yes, remove negative battery terminal and pump the brake pedal for 10 seconds. Reconnect battery and the check engine light will be gone.

Keep in mind that when you disconnect the neg battery terminal, you clear all codes from the PCM and therefore you will never know what caused the check engine light to come on to begin with. 95% of check engine lights are due to emissions these days. Every thing from a leak down pump to a loose gas cap can set it off. take it to a dealer to see what set it off, and get it fixed.

Also, if you actually do have a problem, your check engine light will come back on after driving 60km of resetting anyways.

autozone and many place will do it for free or let you do it, then find out what is wrong, get a price, then clear the code.
