Driver Door Ratle on my 2002

From the moment I picked up my P5 two weeks ago, it has the slightest tapping(rattle) noise from the driver side door. I know some of you have had this problem and I wanted to make a formal post to discuss this matter. It's driving me friggin' nuts considering I love my car to death. It seems that when I apply a little bit of pressure with my arm on the door, it stops.
So, has anyone else had this problem and if so has anyone contacted a dealer to get it fixed. I would go myself but, I feel like it will be a lot of hassle for something that really isn't much of a big deal. I figure it has to be the whole door panel that isn't sitting flush and either will have to be replaced or the clips holding it in will have to be replaced.
What do you guys think?

Do you think its the door itself, or the interior panel?

Lots of discussion on this. I have taken the door panel off my car a few times to find the cause, and have tried a few fixes, but none have really worked so far.

It is my ONLY gripe with the car so far...

It has nothing to do with the panel virbrating/hitting on anything. I drove around with the panel off the door and I can still hear the rattle. Maybe it's something in the lock latch area or the door sheetmetal.

Taking it to the dealer

I'm thinking of taking mine to the dealer. It he wasn't 40 miles away I might have done it by now. I also asked this question and didn't get any answers. I'm thinking it has something to do with the window cause that is the only thing I can think of to tap on that would make that kind of noise. It seems kinda bad that mazda has not addressed this issue since it appears A LOT of cars have this problem. If I get some time I may try to find it this weekend. If you take it in let us know what they say. Actually I'm going to call the service department right now, I'm sure someone has taken a car in for this before. I'll let you know what they say.

this might be a longshot. But, maybe a small screw fell into the inside of the door?

No, I don't think so. If that was it, pushing the door panel a tiny bit wouldn't cause the noise to stop, which it does.

When I first got my car it started ratlling soon after. I mentioned it at the oil change time and the dealership dealt with it. Hasn't been an issue since.

I don't think all these new cars have a screw loose?

My wife seems to think it's comming from the dash.
Protegedude they didn't mention what they did?

I called 3 different dealers and none of the service guys had even heard of this problem. So that was no help. They all said bring it in!

Yeah, it is definatley not a screw. It seems as if the door panel s just slightly loose. Its like a plastic-like sound.

Protegedude. If you know what your dealer did, please le us know. That would make life so much easier.

I BELIEVE it is coming from the upper rear portion of the door panel. There is a metal strip that runs along the top of the door panel which holds the vinyl cover to the door panel along with the rubber strip that touches the glass. I had the panel off today and pushed on it and it make a very similar noise. I tried trimming a little vinyl that was overhanging the metal strip cause it was making a noise when I'd touch it. I don't think that solved the problem, but I am fairly sure that's the area to focus on.

It is definitely coming from the upper rear portion of my drivers door panel. Opening the window part way does not change the noise so I don't think it's window or regulator related.

Will take the panel off again tomorrow and do more experimenting if the problem happens to/from work. It's strange, it's alot worse some days, and some days it doesn't happen at all.

I have a rattle on the passenger side. I'm going to take it to the dealer soon. Let them fix it.

I believe it comes from where the window frame meets the door sheetmetal. Another place could be the door latch area. At first I thought it's only nramsey and me having this problem but it turned out a lot of you have this as well.

At least it quiets down when I close all the windows and have the AC on.

Post Door Rattle

Well guys, don't think its just the new Pro's with this problem. I have a 99 Protege and after the first year I owned it, the front doors have had a small rattle. I have taken the door panles off and messed inside the door with the wires and window parts and cured the Pass. side rattle, but I still to this day have a slight tapping rattle sound in the driver side door that comes and goes. Anyway just thought I would let you guys know.
